Excited to share my new article in APSR! We show how constitutional structures (parliamentary vs. presidential) and the geographic spread of industries shape trade liberalization and compensation politics across democracies: doi.org/10.1017/S00030…

Some professional news: This summer I'm joining the Political Science Department @NotreDame. I owe a great deal to my friends and colleagues at Cornell, whom I will greatly miss. But I am so excited to return to my alma mater and join an amazing group of scholars. Go Irish! ☘️

We realize that a joint tenure tweet is the professor equivalent of getting matching friendship bracelets or BFF t-shirts like we are in 5th grade 🤣, but having shared the stress of the process to get here, @graemedblair and I wanted to share this happy moment too! ♥️

@CharliePilgrim Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. It seems that the server is down. Hopefully it will come back soon and the link works… Otherwise, I will post a new working link as soon as possible. Thanks once again.

@JamesGDAngelo @MIT_SHASS @MITPoliSci This is a good point. Of course, it is important to think about whether information becomes especially more "transparent" to certain actors (e.g., lobbyists) than to others. It is also important to think about any unintended consequences as you noted. Thanks.

@ScottsSoapbox Thanks. I look forward to hearing about your thoughts on LobbyView. You might find the keyword search also useful for case studies. There are many other functionalities that, I hope, are useful for academic research. Once again, thanks!

@insongkim Thanks. I’ve already conquered the former, but OpenSecrets lobbying issues and agency assignments are pretty basic (although that is somewhat due to the reporting requirements) so I will have to check out your DB.

@ScottsSoapbox Thanks for asking. OpenSecrets is great, but the main value-added would be that we offer standardized firm and industry identifiers so that researchers can merge lobbying data with other financial dbs. We also distinguish issue-specific involvements of lobbyists and gov agencies

This is definitively the go-to #dataset for #lobbying researchers across academic disciplines including for #EconTwitter, #PoliSciTwitter, #strategytwitter, and for #nonmarketstrategy. This reduces costs for all of us to grab firm-level #politicaleconomy data w/ unique IDs.
