I won't let you run away with your ignorance wrapped in big economic vocabulary. To claim that modern interest is merely a harmless instrument of state policy that differs from "old riba" is a complete misreading of macroeconomics. Whether interest is set by a tribal moneylender or a central bank to manage inflation, the mathematical core remains identical: it is an UNEARNED premium demanded on a cash loan that guarantees profit for the wealthy while pushing risk onto the real economy. Again, your point about negative interest rates actually defeats your own argument. You know why? Because central banks only resort to negative rates as an emergency tool to force people to stop hoarding idle cash and actually invest it in real trade. And as for the claim that government simply generates money to pay for interest, that is the literal definition of inflation. Printing money out of thin air to fund interest obligations without matching it with productive output simply devalues the currency. This means the ordinary citizen pays for that "state policy" through a rising cost of living and a loss of purchasing power. The exploitation is still there, it is just institutionalized. Exploitation is Haram!

@YusufAsunmogejo You are wrong. Modern interest system in finance is an instrument of state policy and cannot be equated to old riba. We have even had negative interest rate in modern economic planning. Govt generates the money to pay for it.

@AHorlaplusone @Femi_OfMainland Bro if islam was meant to be lax and change with time then Allah and his messenger would have given us rulings and guides for it…but islam was built for all times…once you clearly know that this is riba you stay away from it. No matter the profit you will make

This is not exactly accurate, it is not very wrong either. There’s no doubt it falls into Riba, and it is also well known that the big problem with Riba is that it often squeeze from the poor and gives to the rich. Before I say much, let me be clear, all forms of interest bearing loans falls under Riba. But it is also important to state that when Islam talks about Riba it is primarily talking about Usury. When Allah said “O you who believe! Fear Allah and give up what remains of riba, if you are truly believers. And if you do not, then be informed of a war from Allah and His Messenger. But if you repent, you may have your principal — neither oppressing nor being oppressed.” — Qur’an, Surah Al-Baqarah 2:278–279 This ayat is not this intensive because of a 3% or 5% interest. It refers to what classical scholars call Riba Al Jahiliyah (“the usury of the Age of Ignorance”). Example - A man borrows 100 Naira to replay 150. - After a year, he cannot repay. - The lender says: “I’ll extend the term, but now you owe 300.” - Later he still cannot pay, so it becomes 600, then 1200, and so on till the poor has given everything up. This practice still exists today, it is common with loan sharks and those unpopular mobile loan apps. Also, for countries like Nigeria, the interest rates is often so high (due to inflation), that it generally difficult for people taking loans to repay back, and at the end, we end up seeing why it is best to avoid it. On the other side, if you take this to the western world, the story might be a little different. For example, in the US and UK, the average Sharia compliant mortgage is more expensive than the average conventional mortgage, be it you’re doing Murabaha or Ijarah. So, if the goal is making life affordable for the poor and not squeezing them out of their money, you wonder what to do. Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi held two positions on this issue: 1) He strongly maintained that riba is prohibited in Islam. 2) But he also supported a limited exception for Muslims living in the West regarding home mortgages under certain conditions. Sheikh was of the opinion that bank interest falls under riba, not just exploitative ancient usury as discussed in the books of Hadiths. To go back to the original issue at hand. YES, it is Riba, and Muslims should avoid it 100%, but it is not necessarily “squeezing from the poor”, in fact, if one understand finance process and trace this transaction to the source, you will find that it is not exploitative from the source. Commercial interest rates are not high in Nigeria because of intent to exploit. I just need us to give a more nuanced, beyond 13th century Baghdad opinion on the issue of Riba. This is not a write up for us to accept it, it’s a write up for the need to understand it as it plays out in modernity not 1400 years ago, before addressing it. Allah knows best.

This is the danger of Riba (Interest). Those 106k he is earning daily are other people’s sweat. They are being squeezed for him to smile. Unfortunately 💔

An entire Christian community in Northern Nigeria has accepted Jesus as a Prophet of Allah, rather than His son or God. They claim that anyone who was breastfed, circumcised, cried, ate, slept, prayed to God, and was even crucified can never be God—including Moses, David, Solomon, and Prophet Muhammad (SAW). They are currently facing a severe water crisis and are urgently appealing for clean water. If you or anyone you know can help, please contact the person named in the video.

@0moyeh When a woman says "be a man," she's asking for masculinity. When she says "you're acting like a woman," she's pointing out weakness. The framework is clear: masculine is desirable. Feminine is not. Even feminists use this language. That's the irony.
