Take it from the snapping turtle.
Summer is a great time to slow your pace and spend a little time outdoors. There's no prize for getting to the overlook first.
Sometimes the best part is the journey.

Tucked beneath southern New Mexico’s Organ Mountains, the ruins of a historic hotel and health resort tell a story more than 100 years old.
Once filled with visitors seeking healing mountain air, the stone buildings are now being reclaimed by nature.
Step back in time when you visit the @BLMNational Dripping Springs Natural Area.

Big week for America: Interior helped take down a major fentanyl operation, modernized Tribal probate services, returned more wildlife management decisions to local communities, kept our parks running smoothly over the Fourth of July, and celebrated 80 years of the @BLMNational.

It's our birthday! 🎉
Join us today in celebrating 80 years of stewarding America's public lands with a special fee-free day at participating BLM sites that usually charge standard amenity or day-use fees! 🌲✨ Whether you're discovering a new favorite spot or revisiting a beloved location, this is the perfect chance to explore the beauty of our public lands.
As you celebrate with us, let’s work together to keep these treasured places pristine by following Leave No Trace Principles:
🌍 Pack out what you pack in
🚶♂️ Stay on designated trails
🦌 Respect wildlife
🌿 Leave what you find
Here’s to 80 years of public lands and our commitment to protecting them for generations to come! 🥳

Happy Birthday, @BLMNational!
America's public lands are more than breathtaking scenery. They're places where Americans camp, hunt, fish, produce energy, and create lasting memories.
Here's to another year of keeping America's public lands working for the American people. 🇺🇸

Public lands are for families, hikers, hunters, anglers and everyone looking to enjoy the outdoors. They're not places for drug traffickers to do business.
Earlier this year, @BLMNational law enforcement officers uncovered fentanyl distribution on America's public lands. Working with federal, state and local partners, they seized 2.5 kg of fentanyl, 15,000+ counterfeit fentanyl pills, cocaine and more than $100,000 in suspected drug proceeds.
The fentanyl seized represents more than 1.2 million potentially lethal doses.
America's public lands belong to the American people, and we'll keep working to protect them.

Houston, we have a solution.
About 3 MILLION endangered Houston toad eggs were reintroduced to ponds in Bastrop County, Texas this year.
@USFWS biologists, conservation partners, and private landowners are working together to restore habitat and reconnect isolated populations, giving one of America's rarest amphibians a fighting chance.
It's a small step for each toad. A giant leap for toad-kind.

Yosemite National Park once saw more than 120 days of traffic gridlock a year.
So far in 2026?
TWO. 🤯
Smart innovation is making a real difference. Saturday waits at the gate that once stretched to 3 hours are now typically under 30 minutes, even as visitation is UP 12%.
Less time staring at brake lights. More time staring at Half Dome.

The science is more than clear: grizzly bears have recovered and far exceeded federal recovery benchmarks.
Happy to announce yesterday that @Interior is returning conservation leadership to the Western states instead of Washington bureaucrats!

If you're hiking the Grand Canyon or any public land this summer:
* Hike early or late. Avoid 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
* Carry more water than you think you'll need.
* Replace electrolytes.
* Wear light-colored clothing and a hat.
* Never assume water will be available.
Heat illness can develop quickly. The trail will still be there tomorrow. Stay safe.

167°F.
That's what this thermometer recorded at the inner canyon of @GrandCanyonNPS.
While that isn't the air temperature, it shows just how dangerously hot the canyon can become during the summer. Inner canyon air temperatures regularly climb above 100°F, and the surrounding rock makes conditions even more extreme.

The Oregon Trail has often been called "the nation's longest graveyard."
Thousands of pioneers lost their lives on the nearly 2,000-mile journey west, and many were buried where they fell.
Today, @BLMNational archaeologists in Idaho and their partners are using specially trained Human Remains Detection dogs to help locate those forgotten graves, preserving an important chapter of America's history for future generations.
