"Yours to Discover" by internetVin My little talk at Toronto Tech Week 2025. This was a new format and setting for me, I was pretty nervous about it, but I thought I would just try it out and see what I would learn. Thank you for everything so far.

I don't know how to explain it, man. I just don't know how to explain it. It's just my instincts. I guess because I grew up here, there's just something in my bones where I can just tell when something's in the air. But man, I'm telling you, this summer in Toronto is going to be fucking crazy.

Can’t help but feel Iceman and all of this is like the magnum opus from Drake, or at least the finale, feels like the spiritual end of an incredible run.

I can’t exactly describe it but this album feels like Views? The rollout for that was also very Toronto and this has that same energy. Maybe even more?

The most important format right now is documentary. You can think of it as layers that stack on top of each other. More companies will move towards an always on documentary layer in some shape or form. You can already see this with people explaining their work at a higher frequency, then from there it will go to cinema verite, how a company moves through this stack will be determined by the sensibilities of the in house filmmaking leadership / show runner that they hire.

I don't really like publishing meta-analyses on media, but I'd say one of the most under-explored conceptual strategies is that I think more companies need to start thinking of everything they do as a kind of show, like a cinematic world, and they need to start hiring showrunners that look at the characters within an organization and start turning them into archetypes. Start building plots through the product lines and expressing or creating an always-on, continuous show.

A clip from New Stadium in Toronto. Chris Samra (@crsamra) shares the story of how his father found, negotiated, and purchased a Sony DCR-TRV730. He shares the technical documentation that the camera came with and contrasts it with how modern devices get designed, sold, and distributed today. "You really have to appreciate how much effort these companies used to put into documenting their products. You're not getting this with an iPhone. They're not going to have all of these diagrams on what buttons to press anymore." "Simple design has taken over consumer electronics, and that's generally for the better... but sometimes you want to have all the knobs, buttons, and whistles."
