My new video was hit w/ a copyright strike and has been taken down from youtube. First time it's ever happened to me. I don't want to risk having my channel deleted, so I'm going to refrain from uploading a reedited version of the video until the strike expires in 90 days.

@Haardonn @Haki987 @CTurtlev3 You're right Isayama wanted to make him more sympathetic but "his motivation changing" is just wrong. The anime even added a line saying he would've done the rumbling regardless of them

@invaderzzzz @Haki987 @CTurtlev3 No he definitely did back out. Eren letting his friends stop the rumbling, Armin thanking Eren for becoming a mass murderer, Eren’s motivation for the rumbling changing to “wanting his friends to live long happy lives”, Isayama was clearly trying to make Eren more sympathetic

Not sure why this is blowing up all of a sudden, but if you actually read the quote, Isayama's "regret" is that he was too attached to Eren's character to portray him as a completely unsympathetic villain. In other words, he regrets that the ending he wrote went too EASY on Eren.
Dexerto@Dexerto

Attack on Titan creator Hajime Isayama has regrets about how the series ended, saying there is a “sense of insincerity” to how Eren Yeager’s story played out “A large factor was also my own immaturity and foolishness at the time, when I was in my early 20s”

@Nezujira Are you trying to imply that you disagree with what I said? Because I agree with you that that's part of the problem

@lovelyYmir Yeah I definitely agree. I had some issues with the manga version but imo the way the anime does it is pretty great, the added/extended talk with Armin basically gave it the sting I felt that it needed

@invaderzzzz I personally don't think he should have actually been portrayed as unsympathetic villain (definitely not completely as that). I think the point itself was to face the fact that someone you like/love/idolise could do wrong. It's why Mikasa stopped Eren while still loving him.

@Haki987 @CTurtlev3 I wouldn't agree he 'backed out', bc ultimately Eren DID destroy almost the entire world. I think he's saying he regrets not framing it correctly, though. Less a problem in the anime, but in the manga it felt like Eren wasn't treated as gravely as he should have been

@invaderzzzz @CTurtlev3 Obviously he regrets it, eren went from having insane character development going from sympathetic hero to genocidal villain, only for isayama to back out.

@plumokin I agree, though I still get where Isayama is coming from. The funny part is that most ppl using this as "proof" the ending was bad (like you say) are missing the key point: Isayama thinks he didn't condemn eren ENOUGH, not that he regrets the direction he took the character

@invaderzzzz I think it was done well, and it's just the online community of ending-haters that are going to use this to say "omg I knew the ending sucked" when in reality Eren is a complex character and it's very difficult to write that in the perfect way

It's also hard to fault him for sympathizing w/ a character he spent 12 years growing attached to. And looking at it from another angle, that's interesting in its own way. Even tho the entire world is destroyed, Isayama is still the most interested in dissecting Eren at the end.

Isayama is right btw, and I think it's an admirable skill for an author to be able to judge their own work this way. The ending (especially the original, before the anime improved it) was WAY too nice to Eren considering what he did, which is probably one of its biggest flaws.

I'm trying to find a screenshot of an OLD AoT tumblr headcanon post (2013ish) that went roughly like this: "What if at the end of the story when all the titans are dead, Eren says 'not all of them...' and stabs himself" If anyone knows what I'm talking about please send it to me

@prototypell his entire life was meaningless and wasted, he was a broken man who could never grow up, and ultimately he passes his curse onto Shirou. And Shirou's story is largely about dealing with that in different ways across the different routes.

@prototypell He knows it's wrong not to rebuke Shirou for this, but it also brings him comfort to hear that his dream will be carried on, because mentally he is still stuck in that moment of his childhood w/ Shirley. Imo Urobochi was trying to illustrate how Kiritsugu's story is about how +

Fundamentally here my issue is that shirou inheriting kiritsugu's ideals in the end is framed as redemptive of kiritsugu instead of like, the whole Problem that Shirou has to deal with in fsn
Typell 🏳️‍⚧️ WataNare Arc@prototypell

the one mistake in fate zero that i dont see people talking about much is how urobuchi cant resist making kiritsugu a misunderstood heroic figure even in the end when hes mentally shooting his wife and kids in the head

@_nohaj_ I can certainly do that if there's demand for it LOL, though when I said uncensored I meant just a cut of the video where I don't censor every time we say fuck/shit etc. bc we swear so much that youtube will actually age restrict the video if I don't censor it
