A manager once came to HR asking to issue a warning letter. ''An employee is always late. I’ve told him many times'', he told HR. Before sending the letter, HR called the employee for a quick chat. He told the HR softly, ''I drop my daughter at school every morning. My wife passed away last year… there’s no one else to do it.'' This is what HR did ↓

In the second round of the open section of the London Classic, IM Marcus Harvey beat GM Ilya Smirin in a fantastically exciting match, featuring a knight sacrifice and an astonishing pawn race. #chess #englishchess

Fresh off his win at the Tournament of Peace, it was 3/9 for GM Shreyas Royal against some strong board one players at the Croatian Team Championship. His team, SK Zagreb finished 6th out of 10. #chess #englishchess

Whatever you think of the policies there’s no denying Shabana Mahmood was on fire in that debate. A stand-out star of the Cabinet, along with Wes Streeting. They’re both correct on sex and gender, and assisted dying, too. Not a favourable comparison with Starmer.

GM Shreyas Royal's rampage through the field in the Tournament of Peace continued today. This time GM Robert Zelcic (black) was defeated. Royal has a 1.5 point lead with three rounds to go! #chess #englishchess

@eternalhopeoaks Yeah probably. The main requirement is 2500 fide. The norms are there to prevent cheating or farming to get the title.

@AntWadebridge @PHChess @GMAlexColovic I'm not sure that's correct. Yes, there is currently deflation, because FIDE made an adjustment to deal with a long period of historic inflation. Karpov achieved his peak rating in 1994, but that was well past the peak of his playing strength.

@PHChess @GMAlexColovic For sure. Is it as robust now though? Seems there is an awful lot of deflation. Players are not getting worse.

Sometimes in chess history it happens that the best player and the World Champion are not the same person. That is fine, but some people, even former World Champions, cannot seem to accept that. Their problem entirely.

The BBC’s Reality TV show Chess Masters: The Endgame is a rare return of chess to prime-time TV. So far there's been a mixed reaction from both chess fans & critics! chess.com/news/view/bbc-…

@McCreadyChess I think you mean "unsociable" not "antisocial"? Besides, in my experience, chess is very sociable!

I appear to have come across something I don't quite know how to proceed with. When chess splintered away from other pastimes and chess clubs came into vogue, how did this constitute progress? There must surely be a connection to the charge of being antisocial it has procured.

This I think is just flat out wrong. Arbiters should have video access to players rest and eating area, but not online viewers. Give the players a break. Enjoy their chess moves, but dont make a WC match into a reality show. Believe in the core product. Chess.

While the World Championship keeps you on edge, the players are enjoying their rest day. As David Howell said in Game 12, "He's tast-Ding those nuts and chilling out right now"—why not do the same? 😎 #DingGukesh

@doctor_omikron @SusanPolgar I may be a tool, but I can spell 'losing' correctly. World Championship contenders have lost games on time before. Besides, the position was already lost at that point.

Official result: Draw! 5-5 after 10 games. It seems that Ding has found his groove and made his intention known. 1) If Gukesh wants to win this match, he has to take chances to break up the deadlock. 2) Ding is happy to chill his way into the rapid and blitz playoffs. #DingGukesh
