@cosmograf I watched the video, interesting it was. Drilling out the component , modifying it, is just so way above my level!

@MartinSLewis In my case - my work is my hobby and my hobby is my work. Own company doing my own thing. Not saying this is the best or healthiest way to proceed, but it works. Still much time for family (of course). But I work on and off 24/7 and love every minute of it.
English

@scottiebateman Nothing wrong with that ! Did you use a drone for that zooming shot?

I’m not a natural presenter in this environment, so trying some new stuff.
I’m far more comfortable thinking, observing, and writing than performing for a camera. So this one felt a little awkward to record.
But places like this matter.
This is Checkerboard Hill in Hong Kong, a quiet landmark that once sat at the heart of one of aviation’s most demanding approaches. For decades, wide-body aircraft, including the Boeing 747, passed this point on the way into Kai Tak. Not because it was dramatic, but because it demanded judgement, precision, and discipline.
Aviation history doesn’t just live in books or museums. It lives in geography. In decisions. In places where design, culture, and human judgement intersect.
I wanted to capture that, even if the delivery isn’t perfect.
The 747 and Hong Kong grew up together, both shaping how the world connects. That story, and others like it, are why I wrote JUMBO. Not as nostalgia, but as an attempt to understand how one aeroplane quietly changed the world.
Sometimes it’s worth pressing record even when it feels uncomfortable.

@whatisnuclear Classic resource (VHS!). With modern systems we can simulate in many ways. Here is a simple one from Ionactive - created for us by @Grallator (Chris).

@cosmograf @thealexbear Thinking similar. Louise 435D is 8 years old from nearly new. It has 26,000 miles on clock. Might be lowest mileage example in UK? Not even run in.
English

@ionactive @thealexbear I've still got my 535D but starting to get some problems now...It's now 16 years old! 😃 Yes...I hear you...on being 55... I've got a 10 year plan now for retirement so expensive cars have to take a back seat. I should hopefully still be able to keep the TVR though...

Is it just me...or are these an absolutely stellar bargain?! £12k for something that'll take you to work comfortably and safely all year round, tour Europe effortlessly or go for a Sunday Morning rip to a meet.
The RS5 is about £5k cheaper than the mechanically Identical RS4 of the same era.

English

@cosmograf @thealexbear Went RS6 - RS5 - RS6 again. Running costs too embarrassing to mention here! Probably my last - at 55 I am really having to think ahead now (hate the thought). Will be working for ever - but running costs in addition to all price rises is getting ridiculous. The 435D is the one.
English

@ionactive @thealexbear Forgot you had an RS5 before the RS6s Mark! How have the running costs been recently on your current one..? It's the ultimate estate for sure.
English

@thealexbear @cosmograf Sorry - mean the doors. Water between the glass and upper rubber seal get frozen in winter (my wife 435D has similar issues). Agree - plenty of grip with the right tyres.
English

@ionactive @cosmograf Get stuck in icy conditions?! Its a quattro...always run the right tyres too
English

@cosmograf @thealexbear Good value for sure (to buy). Doors are awkward though someone parks too close and get stuck in icy conditions too. Then there are the discs and brake pads (etc). Enjoyable car, but the £12k is just the start of it. (ex RS5 owner, now madder RS6 owner).
English

@thealexbear Large coupes do seem to have an unpopularity problem these days... It's just deliberately unpractical for most uses and in honesty it's no better looking than the estate. Can't deny the value though...

@FearLinda @jcrfear Love this.. we (Me and Mrs R) are a little behind this, but if we add marriage to dating, we are not that far behind. Fabulous.
English

@MartinSLewis Never listen to your headmaster at a secondary modern school in Buckinghamshire in the 80's! Who told me - don't expect to be a Dr, manager, business owner , airline pilot etc - they have gone to the grammar school, you have not.
English

@cosmograf I recall the invite. Fabulous place. I hope the musical wheels are now turning "
English

@cosmograf We have a heat pump (don't ask) - 18 years and counting. My energy bill is £400 per month and rising (in the winter). Yes, in the summer hot water is cheap. But don't try and warm your poor cold hands on our radiators in winter. Flaccid!
English

@MartinSLewis I have held off all these adverts . We will get you money, minus fees. A good strategy?
English

@jcrfear Cheers - will be coming after you in the months ahead re RPA renewal! Cannot believe this has come around again. Coffee and cake on offer (at least!).
English

@ionactive It was parked up, so didn’t hear it running. Thanks Mark, all well. Hope you are as well.
