The appointment of the first female Executive Director was another milestone in IPSA’s history, with Kim Fontaine-Skronski succeeding nine consecutive male secretaries-general (1949–2020).

Over the past 3 decades, IPSA increased female representation, including the election of 6 women presidents: Yuko Kasuya (2025-2027); Dianne Pinderhughes (2021-2023); Marianne Kneuer (2018-2021); Helen Milner (2012-2014); Lourdes Sola (2006-2009); and Carole Pateman (1991-1994).

Today marks #InternationalWomensDay. Gender equality & diversity are key criteria in the election of IPSA President, EC and Council members, and in the representation of women at IPSA events, following administrative reforms.
