I sharply chose Science. Oh boy!!!! I used to read like my life was dependent on it… because it was ooo. Biology, physics and Chemistry, everything would just be jamming in my head. At the end of first term, I took 78th position out of a class of 85 persons. Ahhhh where did all my reading go to? We were actually that number because everybody shaa wanted to be in science class. Second term and third term in my SS1 was still a genuine struggle. I ended up with an average of 51% and they shaa pushed me and let me go into SS2. SS2 first term and there was still no major improvement… I was still failing with my hands and legs in the air. After the first term, when I got home, my family resolved that it was best for me to go back to SS1 and start again as a commercial student. The reason for this was because, after reviewing my results right from primary up until junior secondary school…, It was noticed that I could fail every subject but I never failed mathematics so to my parents, it just made sense that I studied accounting since it involved numbers. In that moment, it genuinely didn’t make any sense to me ooo. That’s how my mum went to my school and asked them to demote me from SS2 to SS1. I thought it was a joke until she came home with Commerce text book, Frank woods and a new set of long note books. See I went back to school and a lot happened.. I decided that since I failed before, I was not failing again. I read again like my life was dependent on it, but this time around, I moved from a below average student to someone who took 5th position in the same term I joined commercial class, then 3rd position the next term and 1st position throughout my SS2. I even Graduated as the best student in mathematics. Went to university, graduated with a 2:1 in accounting and today I’m a Chartered Accountant. I’m Grateful every single day for the gift of my parents who knew what was best for me and stopped at nothing until I became the best version of myself.
