האוניברסיטה העברית גאה לברך את פרופ' ינון בן-נריה מהפקולטה לרפואה על זכייתו בפרס ישראל בתחום חקר הרפואה, על פועלו בחקר מחלת הסרטן. ועדת הפרס ציינה בנימוקיה כי "פרופ' בן-נריה הוא חוקר פורץ דרך בתחום חקר מחלת הסרטן, שגילה מנגנונים להתפתחות הסרטן שהובילו ועדיין מובילים ליצירת תרופות לטיפול במחלה. מחקריו של בן נריה התפרסמו בבמות מדעיות ובעיתונות המקצועית הטובה והאיכותית ביותר בעולם". בין התרומות של פרופ' בן-נריה לחקר הסרטן נמנים זיהוי הגורם המולקולרי הראשון המסביר את הקשר בין דלקת וסרטן, גילוי דלקת סמויה הנפוצה בתאים סרטניים ומזרזת התפתחות סרטן בנוכחות מוטציות סרטניות, ואפיון גנים המשחקים תפקיד מפתח בסרטן המעי הגס.ל בין התרומות של פרופ' בן-נריה לחקר הסרטן נמנים זיהוי הגורם המולקולרי הראשון המסביר את הקשר בין דלקת וסרטן, גילוי דלקת סמויה הנפוצה בתאים סרטניים ומזרזת התפתחות סרטן בנוכחות מוטציות סרטניות, ואפיון גנים המשחקים תפקיד מפתח בסרטן המעי הגס. צילום: Bruno Charbit
