Ask an American about the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A substantial portion will tell you it was necessary. Tragic, but necessary. It ended the war. It saved lives. Hard choices in impossible circumstances. Now ask them how they would feel if another country had done it to an American city. Watch the framework collapse in real time. Suddenly "necessary" is not a category that applies. Suddenly there are no hard choices and impossible circumstances. Suddenly it is simply: a crime. An act of war. An atrocity. This is not hypocrisy in the ordinary sense. This is a two-tiered moral universe so deeply internalized that most people living inside it cannot see the structure at all. Violence done to Americans is atrocity by definition. Violence done by Americans requires context. Requires understanding. Requires a discussion of the strategic situation. This is the psychological furniture. This is what empire builds inside the people who benefit from it. And it is almost invisible from the inside.

There is a profound irony in the fact that the countries funding the American war on Iran are the same countries that call themselves the heart of Arab and Muslim civilization. Mecca is in Saudi Arabia. The largest sovereign wealth funds in the Muslim world are in the Gulf. The most expensive mosques. The most lavish Islamic conferences. The most generously funded Islamic universities and research centers and charitable foundations. And the money that funds all of this, the same money, from the same oil, managed by the same governments, is also funding the military infrastructure that is being used against the most significant remaining Muslim power that has not been broken by the American imperial system. You are funding the dismantling of the last major Muslim state that says no. With money made from Muslim oil. Managed by governments that claim Muslim legitimacy. In the name of a civilization whose Prophet said the Muslim ummah is one body. The contradiction is not subtle. It is not hidden. It does not require sophisticated analysis to see. It is completely, starkly, humiliatingly visible to every Muslim in the world who is paying attention. And the Muslims of the world are paying attention. They are watching. They are learning. And what they are learning about the governments of the Gulf will not be forgotten when the security arrangements change and the palaces need a different kind of legitimacy.

Our media tells us that if we don't pay $2 billion a day for this war, we're antisemites. If we don't agree to support Israel's genocide, we're antisemites. If we don't do every war Israel wants, we're antisemites. Almost as if that's a tool they use to make sure no one dissents.
