🚫 CLAIM: Iranian state media claims that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps hit a U.S. warship with two missiles. ✅ TRUTH: No U.S. Navy ships have been struck. U.S. forces are supporting Project Freedom and enforcing the naval blockade on Iranian ports.

GREAT IFE STUDENTS' UNION OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY, ILE-IFE Ken Saro-Wiwa Building, OAU studentsunion@oauife.edu.ng _Monday 13th April, 2026_ PRESS RELEASE *RE: CLARIFICATION ON TODAY’S PEACEFUL PROTEST AND MANAGEMENT’S DIRECTIVE ON MID-SEMESTER BREAK* The Great Ife Students’ Union wishes to address the University community and the general public regarding the events of today and the subsequent directive issued by the University Management. Earlier today, students of Obafemi Awolowo University engaged in a peaceful and well-coordinated protest at the Campus Gate, after yesterday's congress resolution, to express legitimate concerns over the recently introduced transportation system and its adverse effects on students’ welfare. It is important to state clearly that: 1. The protest remained strictly within the Campus Gate axis. 2. At no point did the demonstration extend to any major road or disrupt public traffic beyond the immediate university vicinity. 3. The exercise was orderly, controlled, and devoid of violence, harassment, or any form of misconduct. 4. Union leadership was fully present to ensure maximum coordination and adherence to the principles of peaceful engagement. The Students’ Union therefore finds it deeply concerning and misrepresentative that the Management’s statement characterizes the protest as “unruly” and alleges obstruction of major access roads and harassment of road users. These claims do not reflect the reality of what transpired. Furthermore, the decision to mandate a mid-semester break with immediate effect raises serious questions about the University’s commitment to student welfare and constructive engagement. Sending students home for peacefully agitating for better living and learning conditions sets a troubling precedent and should be interpreted as an attempt to suppress legitimate student voices. We strongly assert that: 1. Students acted within their rights to peaceful assembly and expression. 2. The protest was a necessary response to prolonged dissatisfaction with the transportation system. 3. The directive to vacate campus represents a disproportionate and punitive reaction to a lawful and peaceful demonstration. In light of this, we call on all meaningful stakeholders; alumni, parents, civil society organizations, and well-meaning Nigerians, to come to the aid of OAU students and lend their voices against what can only be described as high-handed and unjust treatment of students advocating for their welfare. However, in the spirit of responsibility and good faith, the leadership of the Great Ife Students’ Union remains committed to constructive engagement. We are open to honest, transparent, and solution-driven dialogue with the university management to address the transportation crisis and Awo Hall eviction. Our position remains clear: We seek not confrontation, but fairness, accountability, and practical solutions. We urge all students to remain calm, law-abiding, and united as we continue to pursue a resolution that safeguards the interests and dignity of the Great Ife student body. *Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta* Announcing: Olowosile Joseph Oreoluwa Public Relations Officer, Great Ife Students’ Union Signed: Habeeb Oke ISA (OPEYEMI) Secretary General, Great Ife Students’ Union Adelani David Oluwatodimu (Itabi) President, Great Ife Students’ Union
