Σήμερα επήα downtown για ένα meeting. Με τους χάρτες μου (Λεμεσιανή, ζω Λευκωσία 18 χρόνια τζιαι δεν έμαθα να κυκλοφορώ🫣, λείπει μου η θάλασσα ως reference 🤷‍♀️). Επάρκαρα στ'ανάθεμα. Μες τα πηλά. Έφτασα στο meeting place. Αναβλήθηκε. Ανακάλυψα δίπλα αυτήν την όαση☺️Bookmarked📍🧭

When marble speaks

Paris is so beautiful that people rarely talk about this 1500-year-old magnificent church. Paris’s oldest church has lived several lives and survived all of them. Founded in 543 under the first kings of France, Église Saint-Germain-des-Prés stood here before Gothic was even a style, then quietly became one of its earliest expressions. Vikings looted it. Monks were killed inside its walls. During the French Revolution it was stripped of faith and turned into a saltpeter factory. In 1794, fifteen tons of gunpowder exploded and erased the monastery entirely. Only the church refused to fall. Today, its ceiling tells a different story. Since 2013, a careful restoration has covered the vaults with hundreds of glowing stars, each tied to a modern donor, now visible through an interactive display. You can still walk in on select afternoons, and on the last Sunday of each month, the organ fills the space for free. Few buildings in Paris have absorbed this much violence, neglect, and renewal, and still feel quietly alive when the music starts.
