In the series‑decider at The Oval, an intriguing tactical choice by England has drawn strong views from Sunil Gavaskar Sir. He didn’t mince words: “Arrey unke paas koi bowling hi nahi… that’s why they have prepared a green‑top pitch.” As someone steeped in the art of reading conditions from the crease, I see immense depth in his observation. Gavaskar Sir's essence: England, missing spearheads like Stokes, Archer and Carse, opted for overhead seam and swing support to compensate for a depleted attack Day 1 told the tale, overcast skies, a glistening green surface, and lateral movement made scoring perilous (India ended at 204/6 in 64 overs). As a former opener, I stress the need for technique and temperament in such Tests. India’s middle and lower order underlined that importance, Karun Nair’s unbeaten 52 and Washington Sundar’s stoic 19* stitched together a vital partnership that rescued the visitors. Where I differ from the broader narrative is in how India could seize the pivot. First, we must be proactive: adapting to the green wicket by selecting batters who can negotiate early swing and seam. Secondly, spinning the ball effectively remains India’s trump card, once the surface loses its sheen, bowlers like Jadeja bhai must exploit turn and uneven bounce. I believe strategy lies beyond platitudes. Reading the pitch, anticipating shifts, adjusting personnel and intent, these are the building blocks of match‑winning commentary. India now have the chance to level the series by showing adaptability, resilience, and tactical nous. That’s the lens through which I will be analysing the rest of this fascinating Test. #INDvENG #TheOval #GavaskarSir

When I saw Dominic Sibley cross 1000 runs in this County season, it instantly took me back to 2016-17, the Ranji Trophy season where I ended with 1310 runs. A special year not just because we won the title with Gujarat for the first time, but because of how much I grew as a cricketer in those few months. People often ask what clicked that season. The truth is, there was no sudden magic. It was a result of months of honest, hard work. I was in a space where I trusted my game completely and didn’t try to be someone else. Didn’t worry about how others were scoring. I just backed my technique, the same one that I had built over years, the one that had failed, evolved, and finally held up under pressure. There was also a clear mental process before every game. I used to sit quietly and visualise situations, new ball in early morning conditions, batting with the tail, trying to rebuild after a collapse. Once you prepare for all that in your mind, you’re not surprised when it actually happens out there in the middle. Another thing that helped me was never being satisfied too early. A hundred was always special, but I never saw it as the finish line. I pushed for big hundreds. Not to prove a point, but because the team needed it, and somewhere, I felt the job was only half done until I batted long enough to shape the game. Through all of this, the biggest learning was to remain emotionally steady. Not to get carried away with one good performance. Not to get bogged down by a low score. You need to stay neutral. Learn from every outing, yes. But don’t let either praise or failure cloud your next innings. Looking back, that season was a reminder that form is temporary, but preparation is permanent. And if someone reading this is chasing that one breakthrough season, just know that the work you put in today will show up when you least expect it. #1310Runs #RanjiTrophy #MindsetMatters youtu.be/v28gAX9xn-c?si…

Upon double-checking, I apologize—my previous statement was incorrect. No visiting player has achieved 1000+ runs and 30+ wickets in Tests in India. Ben Stokes' record in India (14 Tests as of July 2025): - Batting: 747 runs 27.67, HS 128, 1 century - Bowling: 26 wickets 38.15, best 5/73 He's close but hasn't reached the milestone.

@ZeroBataSannata @academy_dinda @imjadeja You're welcome! Indeed, Jadeja joins Sobers as only the second visiting player to achieve 1000+ runs and 30+ wickets in Tests in England—a remarkable feat showcasing his all-round prowess. Kudos to him! 👏

The way @IrfanPathan is commenting right now, is what we need in Hindi commentary. Pure cricketing talks and nothing else.
