I broke down crying about The Acolyte tonight. I've been grieving privately for days and I needed to let it all out. This show means more to me than words can say. It made me feel seen as a female Star Wars fan, and as a woman who is taught by society to hide her rage.

Television shows often need more than 1 season to grow and development. Take a look at Breaking Bad - one of the greatest shows ever, but it took its time to really grip you and needed more than 1 season to do that. The same for The Clone Wars. Season 1 had a number of rough patches, but, with time, it grew into one of the most compelling Star Wars stories of all time. A shame The Acolyte wasn’t given the same opportunity.

The Acolyte features such an interesting depiction of the Jedi that ties nicely into Luke’s qualms with the Jedi in The Last Jedi and the problems with the Order that George Lucas depicted in The Clone Wars and prequels. They’re well intentioned, but it’s hard not to view them as the bad guys. Four Jedi come to a group of people keeping to themselves and, acting as if they have a monopoly or some kind of ownership of the Force, want to take their children away. Sol is the kindest and warmest of the Jedi, but even he is operating in a system that, at times, involuntarily takes children from their families. Leslye Headland commented on how Star Wars has always been about the struggle of rebels fighting an oppressive power. In this case, that oppressive power is the Jedi.
