The retcon did feel forced, true. That said, the entire thing didn't strike me as nothing but milking the nostalgia. The atmosphere was thick, they played with the gameplay too. More time in Rupture proper would have been fun - the chaos of the New Year's Eve fighting in the gleaming art deco city, not its more abandoned parts.
