New issue of my UK ecommerce newsletter is out. In today’s issue: Before you cut your Meta ad budget, check if your actual orders have moved. They probably haven't. It's a reporting change, not a performance drop.

Also in today's issue: GameStop's $56bn bid for eBay, Amazon showing UK shoppers 12 months of price history, and Shopify auto-enabling local payment methods on 27 May. All in today's issue here. 📌 beyondthebasket.beehiiv.com/p/beyond-the-b…

Quick one if you sell into the EU. From 19 June you need a "withdraw contract" button on your site. Two clicks. No login. No email to support. Available for the full 14 days after delivery. Vague labels like "cancel" have already been flagged as non-compliant.

Also: Etsy's purchase protection overhaul, Amazon FBA removal fee changes, Vinted's 38% growth, and why your site is probably failing basic accessibility checks. Free, every Tue and Fri 📌 beyondthebasket.beehiiv.com/p/beyond-the-b…

In today’s issue of my ecommerce newsletter: Retail media is getting big. UK brands spent £3.7bn on it last year and it’s growing fast. Subscription traps are finally getting banned. And eBay is adding video to promoted listings for free.

Today’s issue of my ecom newsletter is out. 🚨 Most ecommerce brands spend the majority of their budget chasing new customers. Meanwhile their best ones are sitting in the email list getting ignored.

It’s a straight Q2 revenue play. Amazon wants those billions on the books before June 30, not in Q3. For sellers and competing retailers, the window to prep just got a lot tighter. Mark your calendars, and be ready to react.

🚨 Amazon is reportedly moving Prime Day from July to late June, the first major timing shift since 2015. (via Bloomberg) No official confirmation yet, but the reason is pretty clear…

Today's Beyond the Basket is out. 📦 Consumer confidence just hit its lowest point since the first lockdown. Evri is rolling out 500 new parcel lockers at petrol stations. And 69% of UK fans are already planning World Cup purchases.

Today's Beyond the Basket is out. JD.com just launched a UK Amazon rival with no subscription fee. A third of your customers left last year without you knowing. And Gen-Z has ditched the pub for the gym.

The ONS just updated its 2026 inflation basket. 👍 In: houmous, alcohol-free beer, pet grooming, dash cams. 👎 Out: wrapping paper, pub lager. The update tells you a lot about where UK spending is heading. Worth a look. 👉 ons.gov.uk/releases/consu…

Looked at JD.com’s new UK platform Joybuy this morning. Clean UI, good mix of branded sellers. More considered than the usual Chinese marketplace land-grab. Amazon hides fast delivery behind £95/year. Joybuy doesn’t. More in tomorrow’s newsletter.

The bit that got me though, customers aren’t comparing your site to similar shops. They’re comparing it to Amazon. And the thing that makes them bail most? Being asked to fill in stuff they’ve already told you. Worth a look at your checkout if you haven’t in a while.

Saw some research from MSQ DX that stopped me scrolling. A third of UK consumers switched brands last year because of bad digital experience. Not price. Not a dodgy product. Just… the experience of buying.
