@Narrlocke DN offloads the "complexity" into the part where nothing is happening. Other strats send players to positions where half of them will not get what they need, and will have to execute a swap. DN sends everyone to positions where the correct tether will always appear next to them

difference between popular Idyllic Dream strategies for my friend who asked which one they should learn (this illustrates why DN strategy is considered overly complicated for no benefit)

the effect of a slow dolly like this is often to create a sense of anticipation, as we wait to see what the camera will reveal next. when used in a careless and unmotivated way like this, a shot takes on a sense of dramatic buildup towards nothing in particular

@bitchbyers eh, I think with the Duffers, what you see is what you get. They're very "tell, don't show" as writers. It doesn't track that they would be super overt about Will being in love, but then switch to ultra secret meta clue mode about Mike supposedly feeling the same.

@itsSupercar lowkey though a lot of shows do this with slowburns. so it wasnt truly out of the picture and they shouldve just said Hey Its Not Happening instead of intentionally pussyfooting around it lmfaooo

i’ve been on a journey to try to understand why the shipping community for stranger things genuinely believed all their ships would be true and i’m realizing it’s because the actual writers of the show encouraged them to this point the entire way lol

Remember how in S3, after two seasons of no particular romantic/sexual tension, the writers decided to pair Hopper & Joyce up. And the way they did it is: Hopper starts throwing aggressive tantrums about how much he wants to bang her, until finally his whining wears her down.

@PaulTassi @Forbes I think this focus on plot holes and lore details is useless, whether in criticism or defense of the show. The scene fails because it's about finding and beating up the biggest monster yet, the end of a trajectory toward "epic scale" the show never should have started down.

every character in S1 has to struggle against the tide of social/political forces in their community, just to get enough of a handle on the supernatural threat to fight it. the monster itself is arbitrary now i witness the squad fight the largest monster yet and feel nothing

"It answered all the questions! I'm satisfied!" the entire downfall of the show is in part due to its obsession with tying up "questions". do you watch films & tv to learn a sequence of arbitrary facts about eldritch monsters? just read wikis dawg

this applies to any kind of plot point, really, romantic or otherwise. you learn to accept that feeling of "yeah ok there's an hour left in this, I don't think my hopes & theories have time to come true"

I don't want to come down too harshly on anyone's dreams, but usually if a TV show is interested in exploring a romantic relationship between two characters, it'll do that before the final episode. I cant think of any shows where the central romance blossoms in the series finale

@sweetseaslug The notion of freeing Zosia is a compelling potential plot hook. But if that happens, it'll be a violent and traumatic process that would not play out the way Carol hopes, and would kick the conflict into high gear. Deprogramming via domestic bliss is not how it's gonna work

@sweetseaslug I think a big part of it is just... not picking up what the show is saying about the Hive. It can't lie, but it CAN perform and manipulate. Carol asks for "I" pronouns and Zosia's personal memories, and the Hive obliges because it can do so without "lying".

sorry to controversially plurbpost again but why do people keep insisting that zosia is actually an individual or breaking free or something when the show shows/tells multiple times that the hive can pretend to be individuals. (james bond roleplay, diner roleplay, village, etc)
