Financial clauses can be put in place linked to minutes played, making a loan more costly if a player doesn’t get minutes, but clubs are rich enough that additional fees are easily absorbed

Why is nobody talking about changing the GBE requirements that dictate how many overseas players can be given a work permit to come into the country? The young English players who don't get minutes in WSL1 and WSL2 aren't having their pathway blocked by other English players...

This is absolute seismic. If you ask me, the three faces of Matchroom before, say, 30 minutes ago were: AJ Katie Conor Zuffa just signed Conor, the youngest of the bunch. Just an absolute stunning turn of events in the simmering feud. And as I’ve said from the start of this: Nick. Khan. The man moves different. Wow.

@timstillman_ Signing 2 players (CK an established world class superstar, and a “£1m” player in Smith), are fair, but is Smith £900k better than Freya? Probably not. Didn’t need to sign both, maybe sign one (CK) and keep a pathway clear for a homegrown player to build her way in, seems smart

maybe not, but not sure that happened in this scenario. Arsenal signed Olivia Smith and Chloe Kelly, who I think were fair signings all told and the type of quality big clubs should really be buying. With young players I think it's a lot to do with timing, next year I think there would absolutely be space for Freya but she had been on three loans already and probably just needed to go somewhere and be a regular. This has been a very good move for her. I think I have a closer eye on someone like Laila Harbert, who plays in a position where Arsenal do need numbers and don't have a player like that. I certainly agree players like Kathrine Kuhl, Gio were not well handled. Could say that of Kafaji too but think manager change more significant there. Overall Arsenal certainly have questions to answer on integrating young players but, personal view, the time came for Freya to go and play every week and she's shining.

Certainly understand questions as to whether Arsenal should have held on to Freya but if they had and she had been a squad player (for the time being) at Arsenal, unlikely she would be getting in the England squad. Academies and clubs are responsible for what's best for a player and sometimes what's best for them is to leave and flourish.
