The kind of racism Biharis face is not just casual,it’s deeply ingrained and dangerous.
My parents have been settled in M.P for more than 40 years.I was born & brought up in M.P, spent 17years there & 12years in Delhi. In college, all my friends knew me as someone from M.P.
One day, a friend of mine was approached by a guy she didn’t like. Her reaction? “chhee how dare he even come & talk to me…Bihari kahi ka.” The guy wasn’t even from Bihar.
I asked her what she meant & she said, “arey wahi Bihari type laddke jo hote hain na gande se kahi bhi thook dete hain, baat karne ki tameez nahi hai”
That’s when I told her that my roots are from Bihar.
She was taken aback: “nahi tu nahi wo toh gande hain.”
This is the level of thinking even among the “educated.” An entire identity reduced to filth & stereotypes until it becomes personal.
And then we wonder how this prejudice turns into real hate, into exclusion, violence, and even the recent killing of a man from Bihar in Delhi.
When a person from North East is racially abused, the entire country comes together but when it’s about Bihar and Biharis nobody even bats an eye.
