He’s key in us playing more expansive football, because he’s the only one who allows our front 4 to be free to attack without being completely torn apart in transition. Been saying he needs to start in the pivot for this to work. Even the game he was pulled at halftime he was the best player that half.

Diani deserves a big shout out for last night. I’ve been very critical of him, but I think last night was probably his best performance. Not only did he play great defensively, I’ve never seen him get forward with that much purpose before… that was new and exciting to see for me

I understand he’s had his bad games, but it’s been a lot more good than bad IMO. He has a skills set no one else on the team has. Every season he’s been an important piece to how Dean wants to play. Whether it’s in a duel 8 system or in the pivot. The real reason behind the over hating of him is cause of that penalty in the playoffs against Orlando.

Tbf he’s earned this, his work rate and awareness at times have been abysmal. As good as he is at getting into opponents’ passing lanes, in the past he’s been equally as good at mucking up our own offensive lanes. He’s also inexplicably loafed back on D (which is the primary reason he’s on the field) and has been too slow on the ball many games leading to careless turnovers or killing our buildup. Last night, he was none of those things. He used his length responsibly (no studs up challenges 😂), he positioned himself very well on both ends of the pitch, saw the game well in our final third to really add to our game plan on attack, and he covered loads of ground. If we even get 75% of last night’s version of Diani for this season, that gives Dean so much flexibility in our midfield and he would pair well any of 8, 17, or 13 (until it’s time for us to see some more Baye mins)

I also am analyzing the squad on the best 11 available, we're in great shape with Rovella and Cataldi as the 1 and 2 at the 6 position. Would love a striker upgrade but the highest goal scorer in Serie A has 14 goals and it's March... TATY of all people would be tied 2nd in most goals in Serie A right now with his 2024/25 goal tally of 10 in the league. Still have work to do on the squad, but certainly have a good amount of quality in each line.

I never said that we have better talent than the teams ahead of us, but we certainly have comparable talent to some of the teams ahead of us. I think the only areas that elevate us are a new right winger, I think Isaksen is a great asset to the team but like him better off bench. Right back and then an upgrade to Bashiru would make a big difference. Like Bashiru on the squad as a flexible role player but would really like to pair Taylor with someone who's able to process the game as quick as he does.

It 100% is. I have never bought into the narrative that this is a relegation or lower table quality squad. Yes it’s by no means a Scudetto winning squad, however under the right coach this team has the quality to earn Europa football.

Is it possible Lazio’s squad might be better than we thought? Zacc, Isaksen, Taylor, Rovella (when healthy), Tavares, Romagnoli, Gila, Provedel are all very good to great serie a players that can play on any serie a team imo. Then there’s Bashiru & Maldini who have high potential
