Let me give a very small lesson to artists, and this is just one piece of it. Hypothetically you sign to a major. They give you 100k signing bonus and 200k budget. You have to make back that 300k to get outta debt. Now if they give you that 300k on let’s say a 60/40. Well that means 60 cent of every dollar goes toward recoup, the other 40cent is interest. Do the math now on how much you have to make back to get n the green. Now if they signed you to that deal for 2 albums. And the first one “flops” what happens next? lol take a wild guess. Love JD but unless you have MAJOR MOTION, try to stay indie!! Majors aren’t terrible. I am not “anti-major.” There’s just a time and place for everything.
