@Cover1 If both Beane and McDermott were let go today I'm not sure we see this same support for McDermott. I think the public defence of him is partly outrage towards them keeping Beane

The almost overnight swell of support for McDermott this season felt odd to me. Whether intentional or not, it suggested something had been brewing behind the scenes. Prior to this year, McDermott was under scrutiny by fans and analysts alike, which made the public praise and messaging we saw this season feel even more unusual. That said, I’ll agree - he very well may have done his best coaching job.
