Here's what to do #BCed: 1. Go back to the original stage 2 plan and have high school students attend class four half days a week each, in classes of 15 or fewer. 2. Masks for grades four and up. 3. Students go back Sept 15. 4. Upgrade ventilation, add hepa air cleaners etc.

We know how important it is for kids' development that they spend the next school year with their teachers and classmates. That's why safety is paramount we work to ensure staff and students are protected as most head back to school this fall. news.gov.bc.ca/releases/2020E…

@curlrgirl @jjhorgan I too trust medical professionals, who are almost unanimously advising to avoid crowded spaces with poor ventilation and to wear mask when distancing isn’t possible. It’s time for the provincial government AND medical professionals to listen to teachers about our classrooms!

@itsmscollins @jjhorgan I trust the medical professionals who have knowledge and access to all the data and experience dealing with disease. They have lead us through the worst part and have kept all the people working the frontline safe for the past 4 months.

@curlrgirl @jjhorgan I don’t see anything normal about this situation, do you? Cases are peaking again. It’s going to get worse in cold and flu season. The second wave. This so called plan abandons teachers and students alike to the likelihood of school outbreaks. There needs to be better policy!

@itsmscollins @jjhorgan I get what you are saying, but if there was so much risk, the province would not be taking this approach. The risk was back in March/April and teachers got to work in the safety of their home, so you were compensated for the risk. We have to at least try to get back to normal.

@curlrgirl @jjhorgan Girl, have some class solidarity. None of us should be working in unsafe conditions, ever. When there is necessary risk there should be necessary compensation. In this case the risk is unnecessary, and blindly following this plan into the school year puts us at risk.

@itsmscollins @jjhorgan I suppose like the rest of us who have been working the frontlines directly with customers and patients for the past 4 months. Remember you are fortunate to have a job still. Many people have lost their jobs and businesses.

78 cases of COVID in Ottawa over the past 11 days in school aged children. And just think, schools aren't even open. #safeseptember

@jjhorgan This plan is at odds with EVERY instruction we’ve had from the PHO and puts teachers and students at risk. I can’t believe that your concern for the mental and social wellbeing of students is genuine — this is clearly a need driven by the economy.

The plan for students to safely return to the classroom was developed closely with Dr. Bonnie Henry. We'll continue working with health officials, parents, teachers and staff to make the best decisions for the health and well-being of kids in BC.

I can't quite wrap my head around how we are going to send all kids back to school at the same time. We cannot control lice outbreaks in elementary/middle school, but we'll be able to control Covid outbreaks? #RestartRight #bced #COVID19

The @bctf is calling for the start of the school year to be pushed back to address concerns about the return to school plan. The BCTF is worried about a Sept 8 start being right after Labour Day due to perceived higher risks of virus spread over the long weekend. #bced #bcpoli

The question comes down to how much the @jjhorgan government is planning to spend to make a return to class as safe as possible. Need $ for more teachers (smaller classes), more classrooms (including off site and in large tents/temporary structures), improved ventilation, PPE etc

@pattibacchus @Rob_Fleming Has anyone asked students what they think? My 9 year daughter is frightened & doesn’t want to go back. She is turning 10 in Feb & keeps hearing how the virus affects children 10 & over the same as adults. I’m at a loss in what to tell her. 1st time where mama can’t comfort. #bced

I used to think @Rob_Fleming wasn’t as dangerous as previous Lib education ministers - but he is. He’s leaving individual districts and schools to decide life and death situations on their own, with next to no leadership. Today wasn’t a “plan” - it was barely an idea. #bced

British Columbia calls an event of 51 or more people a “mass-gathering” and it is illegal. But “learning groups” of up to 120 at a high school are approved under the back to school plan. #bcpoli #coronavirus #covid19
