If I had to give this $5,000 to someone else, I'd give it to an elderly mother I met in the ER of a public hospital. They looked like they were really struggling and couldn't afford the medication her daughter needed. She was probably in her 70s, yet she was doing everything on her own to take care of her bedridden daughter, who was still so young. Watching her lift, comfort and care for her daughter without anyone by her side honestly broke my heart. Despite everything they were going through, she never complained. She just kept doing what any loving mother would do. I still think about them from time to time and I sincerely pray that her daughter receives the treatment she needs and recovers soon. For many people, $5,000 might mean a vacation or a new gadget. For her, it could mean proper medical treatment, nutritious meals for her daughter and one less thing to worry about during an already difficult time. Of course, I'd be incredibly grateful to receive the prize. But if someone like her were standing beside me, I'd gladly let her have it instead. Some people aren't just hoping for a better life, they're fighting every single day just to keep the people they love alive.
