Buhari was a terrible President, but One thing I can assure you is that he was Damn!! Good at his Job as Soldier.
He dealt with the Chadian Army in 1983. The Chadian Army was small but mighty.
At a time in 1983, without any warning or formal declaration, Chadian troops crossed into Nigerian territory in Borno State, seizing control of 19 to 33 islands and villages in the Lake Chad basin. And we’re talking around 3,000 Chadian soldiers—some from elite units—rolling in with trucks and heavy weapons.
Oh, those little but brave Chadians!
This incursion was meant to be a slap in the face, but Shagari’s government was already grappling with economic woes, corruption scandals, and election preparations. Thus, the initial response was diplomatic—protests to the UN and OAU (now AU), alongside calls for the withdrawal of Chadian troops. However, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari wasn’t having any of that.
As the tough-as-nails General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3rd Armoured Division based in Jos, Buhari was a decorated officer known for his discipline. He had fought in the Biafran War and held key posts. When word of the Chadian occupation reached him, he didn’t hesitate.
Buhari mobilized his troops and launched a counteroffensive, swiftly recapturing the seized villages in a blitz using armored vehicles, infantry, and air support to overwhelm the Chadians. Casualties mounted quickly: over 100 dead on both sides, including civilians caught in the crossfire.
But Buhari didn’t stop at the border, which is where things get interesting. He pushed Nigerian troops about 50 kilometers deep into Chadian territory to send a clear message: "Mess with us, and we’ll chase you past your home if we have to."
His advance brought Nigerian forces within striking distance of N'Djamena, Chad’s capital—close enough to rattle Habré’s government.
France, Chad's major ally, got involved, warning of intervention if things escalated (they had troops stationed there).
Back in Lagos, Nigeria’s capital, Shagari panicked—he wanted to avoid a full-scale war. So, he ordered Buhari to halt and withdraw. Buhari complied, but not before receiving a private reprimand and threats of a court-martial for exceeding orders (he had even closed the border unilaterally at one point).
The whole affair lasted three days—Nigeria reclaimed its territory, the Chadians retreated with their tails between their legs, and a fragile ceasefire held. Buhari showed strategic mercy by providing an escape route for the invaders to avoid total humiliation.
Ultimately, it ended diplomatically. Nigeria and Chad agreed to a joint patrol of the border and referred the dispute to the International Court of Justice (though full resolution took years, with the ICJ ruling on Lake Chad boundaries in the ‘90s).
Fast forward to December 31, 1983: Frustrated with Shagari’s "weak" handling of security and the economy, Buhari led a bloodless coup that toppled the Second Republic.
He then became head of state, launching his famous "War Against Indiscipline.

@timexx47 @Plettigoal @SkySportDE @imago_images Exactly my thought, in as much as he(Elliott) is good but what worries me is he loses the ball more time than both Baleba and Stiller also they are miles ahead of Elliott in all aspects as CDMs.
English

@Plettigoal @SkySportDE @imago_images Man Utd have a choice. They need a enforcer Defensive Midfielder to command the centre circle and still create from deep. Balema fit this as DM. However any English player with half a chance will be considered since Utd don't think with head but heart. Elliot is CM too not DM
English

🚨🔴 Understand Manchester United remain keen on Elliot #Anderson and have registered concrete interest. #MUFC
Forest are informed. A fee in the region of £100–120 million is still being demanded.

Silence as Strength: PBAT’s Tactical Approach to Geopolitical Provocation
1. Strategic Silence:
Silence as Strength: Strategic silence conveys confidence, showing Nigeria is composed, sovereign, and self-assured. It avoids emotional reactions that undermine global respect.
Diplomatic Maturity: Silence signals Nigeria as a mature nation, focused on constructive engagement rather than unnecessary rhetoric.
2. Controlling Domestic Messaging:
Unified Narrative: Ministers must avoid emotional outbursts. A cohesive, calm response demonstrates a well-coordinated leadership.
Avoiding Escalation: Public figures should refrain from inflammatory language, maintaining focus on diplomacy.
3. Engaging Trusted Allies:
Quiet Diplomacy: Engaging trusted allies like the U.S., EU, and the Vatican behind the scenes can exert pressure on Trump, reducing tensions without public confrontation.
Vatican Influence: Leveraging the Vatican's moral authority can ease tensions around Nigeria’s religious concerns, fostering global understanding.
4. Non-Engagement with Provocations:
Refuse Provocation: Ignoring Trump's military threats denies him the emotional reaction he seeks, showcasing Nigeria’s calm and resolve.
Shift Focus: Strategic silence forces Trump to focus on more urgent matters, while highlighting Nigeria’s dignity.
5. Power of Silence:
Global Perception: Silence will be seen as a sovereign response, signaling Nigeria’s ability to manage external threats without overreaction.
Creating Dialogue Space: Silence opens doors for meaningful diplomacy, allowing Nigeria to engage strategically with global partners.
6. Preventing Escalation:
Avoiding the Trap: By not reacting, Nigeria avoids falling into Trump’s geopolitical provocation aimed at destabilizing the nation.
Shifting the Narrative: Nigeria’s composure could shift focus from Trump’s threats to Western interference in African sovereignty.
7. Long-Term Strategy:
Setting Precedent: Strategic silence sets a precedent for Nigeria’s future diplomatic responses, prioritizing thoughtful engagement over impulsive reactions.
Reaffirming Leadership: Nigeria’s ability to stay calm amidst external pressure strengthens its global leadership and sovereignty.
---
Conclusion:
PBAT’s response—through strategic silence and coordinated diplomacy—is the most intelligent and effective approach to handling external threats, reinforcing Nigeria’s sovereignty and global stature. This reinforces Nigeria’s position as a nation focused on self-determination and long-term progress.

@SkySportsPL You're trying to evaluate his performance midway through the season, but it's unclear which "first year" you're referring to—do you mean his debut season with the club, his first full year in the league, or perhaps the first year under a new manager or system? WE dont care!
