@Adrenaline_Coin @JorgeCastilloPr Ahead of Android design system. Flip phones are not in talk here. With every update they can get better and eventually they will, but we that are using Androids are in worse position. I believe there is hope, but Material You is not that 😃

@ivjukic @JorgeCastilloPr Ahead of what? Flip phones? Liquid glass is Ass. Every update post affects performances as well. Sheep will be sheep though. People deserve better for these prices.

Jokes aside, it’s sad that Google Material You was ignored for like 4 years while Apple Liquid Glass was widely adopted in like 4 months 🫥

What is the oldest Android version you built apps for? I started quite late I think, Eclair (2.1) on an HTC Wildfire.

Looks like Google reverse-engineered AirDrop’s protocol and came up with their own implementation! This is so cool! Now, if Apple deliberately breaks the interoperability and limits it to Apple devices only… I think Google might be able to build an antitrust case out of it
Android@Android

Sharing moments shouldn’t depend on the phone you have. Starting today with the Pixel 10 family, Quick Share now works with AirDrop, making secure file transfers between Android phones and iPhones more seamless. This builds on our commitment to cross-OS compatibility to bridge the gap between ecosystems.  We built this feature with security top of mind from day one. Learn more ↓ blog.google/products/andro…

@Angelomarzeyes @JorgeCastilloPr This is obviously an example, but those menus are a real thing and you can see them in many android apps if they only follow material principles.

@michal_jares @JorgeCastilloPr I don't see how. Even a broken glass UI is nicer than any material theme. Only a fully custom UI can be at the same level as iOS.

Apparently bitwarden locks your 2FA when your subscription expires. As a result I cannot login to any website where I use 2FA

@PetarLjubic92 @JorgeCastilloPr I know, that's piracy is definitely a problem, but there are different ways to fight that. This way Google will decide who can create an app. Imagine if you are an android dev for fun and you want to provide an app that helps solve small problem to your friends and send them APK.

@ivjukic @JorgeCastilloPr It happened to me that somebody hacked my apk file, changed AdMob ids, and published my app on another store, collecting the money from my app. As people said: "What's free, it's not free for no reason"

@JorgeCastilloPr They gave their opinion and adjusted the platform and tools. Before that it was "Choose what fits best for you".

For years, Google did not want to provide opinionated guidelines on Android architecture. Then one day they decided to start doing it, and started sharing carefully crafted docs, codelabs and repos. Since then, architecture hasn’t changed much, if anything at all.
Jorge Castillo@JorgeCastilloPr

@soycastic Not much. Most of the considered good practices and architectural patterns in modern Android have not changed at all in the recent years. I think the reason was that Google finally decided to create opinionated guides, codelabs and repos about Android architecture.

@VasiliyZukanov Full workday on one charge? Seems impossible especially if using Android Studio. I did not experienced that before M4.

My 2014 MacBook Pro is 11 years old (!!). It still looks almost new, shows great performance, and lasts a full workday on one charge. Unfortunately, since Apple moved to a new chip architecture, I have to retire it to build an iOS app. You served me well, old friend 🫡🥹

@PetarLjubic92 @JorgeCastilloPr Don't see how this can be a good thing if they are an "open" platform. They should start this way from the beginning, I wonder where it would bring platform positioning...

Google starts to be everything they pretend to hate. For those who don't understand why this is so bad, Google wants to decide who can and who cannot be an android developer. It will cost you $25 and they can revoke your app whenever they want. Without explanations!
The Hacker News@TheHackersNews

🛑 Important: Google is locking down Android. Starting Sept 2026, every app — even outside the Play Store — must come from a verified developer. No more anonymous sideloads. No quick comebacks for malware gangs. First up: Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand. Full story ↓ thehackernews.com/2025/08/google…

This is the best laptop in the world. Period. M4, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, 18 hours of battery life, 13 inches, 2.7 lbs. $1,699 with the student discount. I've used it for 6 months, and I haven't missed a Pro, not even once. This laptop has no competition.
