The playbook they ran on abortion is being used on trans people's health care now and will come for your birth control next. It's extraordinarily easy to imagine how the same media game being played with puberty blockers or HRT will be done to contraception.
Jessica Valenti@JessicaValenti

The president of the most powerful conservative legal group in the country says banning birth control is at the top of his wishlist: “We are on a winning trajectory...It may be that the day will come when people say the birth-control pill was a mistake.” newyorker.com/magazine/2023/…

A century ago, the Automobile industry undertook a campaign to obscure and invert the moral distinction between killing someone with a car and *being killed* & shift the blame for road deaths to the most vulnerable. Accepting this framing requires that we become moral imbeciles.
AAA Colorado@AAAColorado

One of the best ways for drivers and pedestrians to avoid crashes is to keep your eyes up and pay attention- no phones, no earbuds and pay attention to your surroundings. And drivers, let's slow down too!

I see disabled people use bike lanes/shoulders in the US, but it wasn’t until I went to Denmark/Amsterdam I saw how much car centered transportation limits disabled people. I’ve never seen so many wheelchairs. Bike lanes are mobility lanes. Bike lanes are accessibility lanes.

The three groups most frequently invoked to defend automobile hegemony, the poor, the disabled and children, also happen to be the three groups most directly and substantively harmed—as in endangered, sickened, encumbered, immiserated and killed—by it.

Incredible, it turns out that 99.3% of low income commuters into lower Manhattan do not drive and yet, rich NIMBYs keep using this extremely tiny 0.7% as a smokescreen to justify their opposition to congestion pricing

@DeiselBurner @oofouchoww Hard to say it's about making him look more like Leonard when the fake nose they gave him is bigger than Leonard's actual nose was.

This is actually a good example of what AI systems like ChatGPT excel at—giving managers and administrators the ability to automate top-down, controversial and harmful decision-making while shielding themselves from accountability. A sort of authoritarianism accelerator
Popular Science@PopSci

Administrators asked ChatGPT the specific language of Iowa’s new law, “Does [book] contain a description or depiction of a sex act?” If ChatGPT said yes, the book was removed from the library. popsci.com/technology/iow…

@yikowe @MynameisEarlJ @SteamboatUSA @lachula17 Oh this also happens to a lot of Americans, even if you have pretty good insurance. Unless you have a ton of your own money to burn on doctor-shopping until you find one willing to help you.

@MynameisEarlJ @AmethystPearlx @SteamboatUSA @lachula17 I don’t like to complain about free healthcare where Americans can see it, but it’s the same in Canada. Doctors are super reluctant to investigate things. I was born with a blood disorder that’s still under investigation because they’re hesitant to try new tests. I’m 27.

@RaffiMagarik Zionism as a political movement, you're right; as a longing for the return to Zion, it absolutely is as Arsen says.

Circled in red, the Ellipse on Excelsior is a 189 unit apartment complex that sits on 3 acres. In 2023 it will pay $1.01M in property taxes. The golf course to the right covers 156 acres and will pay $124K in property taxes during the same period.

It's sad because what China needs most is higher property taxes, and cash transfers to boost demand, and instead CCP is to the right of Joe Biden on fiscal policy

“We know how to make streets safe for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers but choose not to do it because we value vehicle speed and motorist convenience over people’s lives” is a banal truth that has been profoundly radicalizing for me.
