wrote my analysis of the war with Iran. short version: it's a theological conflict dressed in geopolitical clothes, and the cynics using the theology are more dangerous than the true believers belowthewaterline.substack.com/p/what-the-war…

Market notes: again, this “productive conversations” with Iran look less of a real diplomatics and more of a chitchat to calm financial markets. Yes, the reaction was immediate and stocks and bonds strengthened and oil fell. But in my view words alone will not reverse the downtrend without something concrete behind them. The Strait of Hormuz remains closed and Iran has no obvious reason to reopen it for free while it still holds one of its strongest cards

@akothari Should they address questionable metrics by mocking the metric or by offering a better account of reality? Since there’s no better account of reality…

a vc partner just told me the exact 90 day window where funded startups are forced to buy whatever you sell "every company that raises a series A or B has 90 days to prove they didnt waste the money" asked what he meant "when a startup raises $10M they submit a deck to investors showing exactly where every dollar goes. 60-70% of the time the biggest line item is sales and marketing" the money is earmarked before the check clears "the board meets quarterly. cfo presents a burn report. if the vp of sales cant show pipeline growth within 90 days of closing the round they start sweating" asked what happens at day 90 with no pipeline "panic. ive seen companies blow $400K on a sales team in 6 weeks because the board meeting was coming and they had nothing to show" he took a sip of wine and said something i wrote on a napkin "the 30 days after a funding round closes is the most desperate any company will ever be to spend money on growth. and its all public information. anyone with a crunchbase account can see it" went home and tested it that night filtered crunchbase for series A and B closed in the last 60 days pulled the vp sales and head of marketing from each one sent one email: "saw you just closed your series B - most companies in growth mode use cold outreach to build pipeline while the sales team ramps. want me to show you how we book 30+ qualified calls a month?" reply rate was unlike anything ive ever run these people have budget allocated for exactly what youre selling a board expecting growth metrics within 90 days and a vp of sales who needs pipeline or has to explain why they havent deployed the capital youre not cold emailing youre showing up the exact week someone has $10M and a deadline to spend it every funding round is a company raising its hand saying "we have cash and 90 days to deploy it before someone asks where it went" crunchbase is free the money is sitting there go get it before someone else does

this will provide no real market impact in the near-term what’s happening is the US is signaling they are willing to capitulate on sanctions and let the IRGC collect the money in the event of normalization
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent@SecScottBessent

Iran is the head of the snake for global terrorism, and through President Trump’s Operation Epic Fury, we are winning this critical fight at an even faster pace than anticipated. In response to Iran’s terrorist attacks against global energy infrastructure, the Trump Administration will continue to deploy America’s economic and military might to maximize the flow of energy to the world, strengthen global supply, and seek to ensure market stability. Today, the Department of the Treasury is issuing a narrowly tailored, short-term authorization permitting the sale of Iranian oil currently stranded at sea. At present, sanctioned Iranian oil is being hoarded by China on the cheap. By temporarily unlocking this existing supply for the world, the United States will quickly bring approximately 140 million barrels of oil to global markets, expanding the amount of worldwide energy and helping to relieve the temporary pressures on supply caused by Iran. In essence, we will be using the Iranian barrels against Tehran to keep the price down as we continue Operation Epic Fury. This temporary, short-term authorization is strictly limited to oil that is already in transit and does not allow new purchases or production. Further, Iran will have difficulty accessing any revenue generated and the United States will continue to maintain maximum pressure on Iran and its ability to access the international financial system. So far, the Trump Administration has been working to bring around 440 million additional barrels of oil to the global market, undercutting Iran’s ability to leverage its disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump’s pro-energy agenda has driven U.S. oil and gas production to record levels, strengthening energy security and lowering fuel costs. Any short-term disruption now will ultimately translate into longer-term economic gains for Americans – because there is no prosperity without security.

You remember the thing that was quite popular a few years ago? It was the idea of a society where people live inside highly self-contained local areas, with shops, work, services, schools, and daily necessities all close by, so that in practice they rarely need to leave. The urban-planning side says life should be organized locally for convenience, efficiency, and less dependence on long-distance travel. The control side adds the idea that this local way of life is not just encouraged but enforced, that governments would limit movement, discourage travel beyond one’s designated zone, and make people function mostly inside an approved neighborhood. It was wild to think anyone could enforce it, but now, with oil prices, flight costs rising, and the overall world situation I think it actually may come true

The White House statement accusing Iran of 44 instances of "terrorism" against American citizens was copied almost word-for-word from a document published by FDD and authored by a former AIPAC director FDD is, of course, Israel's favorite DC cutout for pushing war w/Iran
The Grayzone@TheGrayzoneNews

The Trump White House plagiarized its justification for attacking Iran from the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, the main DC outfit promoting war with Tehran The Tel Aviv-aligned think tank was originally founded to “enhance Israel’s image" thegrayzone.com/2026/03/20/tru…
