Then, right in front of my desk, there was my boss asking about a project report. I had already submitted it, so he went back to open it from his side. My coworker stared at me from the far end of the office. Then typed Excel. When we met in the parking lot at the end of the day, he said quietly: “Boss suspected you were not working and headed straight to your desk.” He drove home without adding another word. Neither did I. Saving a coworker from a bad situation is better than being loyal to a boss.
