A Velvet bunny update. I'm pleased to say the blockage in Velvet's lower stomach has now almost entirely dispersed. And the more severe life threatening blockage in her upper stomach is thankfully breaking down. Little girl is now drinking of her own accord, is able to eat a few bunny pellets and dried compressed peas a day, as well as all the hay she wants. She's also notably happier, much less uncomfortable and far more content. After her x-rays today she was feeling scared and stood up on her back legs, wanting me to pick her up. I was at the end of the table removing the protective garments I'd been wearing while holding her on her side for the x-rays. Little girl immediately turned to Dr Paula who was overseeing her, and in an attempt to be picked up, stood up on her rear legs and rested her paws on the Dr. I can't even begin to express how pleased I am she did this ! After nearly three years of vehemently hating all humans other than me, she showed open trust and went straight to the Dr for comfort and support. That's a 101% victory ! Velvet had been bought by people simply as a 'toy' for their children and when she didn't 'comply', her life became a misery. Poor little girl became angry, confrontational and violent. And that's how she came to eventually be with me. But today, for the first time since she's been in my care, me she reached out to another person. It's one thing to ensure the buns are physically healthy comfortable and well fed. But to see their all too often broken minds and souls healed to the point they recover their trust of humans... That's what it's all about !!! 😊😊😊 Dr Paula was carrying her in her arms, thoroughly enjoying cuddling and petting her for around 15 minutes while she examined and debated the x-ray results with her mother, Dr Ilse. And Velvet enjoyed every single minute of it. 😊💞🐰 Good girl, Velvet ! Please keep her in your thoughts, folks. She's doing well and making progress, but still has a way to go before she's fully fit and healthy again. ❤️

I read a comment on this thread yesterday (no credit to me) that said…why does the male relative have enough cash to buy the child bride but not enough decency to help out financially to stop his relatives from starving. Whoever made that comment should be replacing the journalist who wrote this piece.
