Set /tmp as your standard working directory, as well as your Downloads folder. I work there knowing that everything in it will vanish on the next reboot. I only save elsewhere what I truly want to persist. Most of what we produce, though, consists of temporary by-products and ephemeral artifacts. Ever since I got used to using /tmp, my desktop has stayed perfectly tidy. I’ve probably been doing it this way for about 15 years.

How can I fix this?
