Year 5 of covering #Hokies men’s and women’s basketball for @TechSideline is in the books. Always appreciative and thankful for those who read, subscribe, follow along and interact throughout the season. I don’t take it for granted.

@DevorahLeah How painfully ironic it is that another woman, Bari Weiss announced today it's shuttering CBS Radio News after a century of reporting... Flies in the face of women's achievements in journalism and other disciplines... 😥

It's Women's History Month. CBS Radio had a long history, debuting in 1927. Its 1st female news reporter was Kathryn Cravens, in the early 1930s. Her expertise was in Human Interest stories. An excellent interviewer, she also reported during WW2.

@DaveScarangella ..and the schools don't really matter as far as who an athlete takes pride in, but for who is the highest bidder. At some point things have to even out or a lot of college sports programs are gonna disappear or will exist in irrelevance.

@DaveScarangella The problem with college sports nowadays is we've gone from the schools 100% profiting from the athletes, who got nothing - to a world where the players are bigger than schools' programs because they're getting paid unequal sums, and are essentially paid mercenaries (1/2)

There was a time I was seriously into the NBA, but over time, the game changed and now I rarely watch it at all. I say that because I found today I'm in the early stages of repeating that with college basketball. Maybe it's because my team had a tough year, maybe it's because NIL is creating a bunch of mercenaries who do what's best for themselves (much like the NBA) but I just wasn't feeling it today. Didn't watch the selection show and won't be filling in a bracket this week. Maybe I'm totally wrong, and often am. But it's like the college game has decided to de-emphasize what made it great (tradition, players staying for a few years so you could get to know them, an allegiance to a school) and traded it for the things the NBA does that aren't so great. Hopefully for college sports, I'm the only one who feels this way...

@TechSideline I’m surprised why so many people seem to want to see them get drilled by a middling team in round 1 of the NIT

Broadcasters that are running hoaxes and news distortions - also known as the fake news - have a chance now to correct course before their license renewals come up. The law is clear. Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they do not. And frankly, changing course is in their own business interests since trust in legacy media has now fallen to an all time low of just 9% and are ratings disasters. The American people have subsidized broadcasters to the tune of billions of dollars by providing free access to the nation’s airwaves. It is very important to bring trust back into media, which has earned itself the label of fake news. When a political candidate is able to win a landslide election victory after in the face of hoaxes and distortions, there is something very wrong. It means the public has lost faith and confidence in the media. And we can’t allow that to happen. Time for change!
