We are fortunate to have visited many countries, but two of our favorites are Australia and New Zealand. If you ever get a chance to visit these places and spend time with the delightful people there, don't pass it up. You won't regret it, and you'll have a lifetime of memories!

This is a 30” exposure of Orion, using nothing but my iPhone and some of the native editing tools. Tomorrow I’m sharing this same region, but shot with a custom-configured camera rig designed for multi-night long exposures. Secrets of the Hunter will be revealed!

Meta's crawler hit his small site hosted on Vercel 11 million times, likely harvesting data for its AI training. In contrast, Google crawled the site 1M times. This exploded his monthly Vercel bill from $30 to ~$2000. We've always willingly accepted the web-crawling tax as the price for our site to be discovered. Now, web crawling feels more like data and service theft, with little benefit to us. youtu.be/Js2mDEFU968?si…

Folks, Ralph Wiggum is the real thing. I just poured 200 bucks and some change of tokens into a project and I swear to god ralph + opus 4.5 finished about 1 to 2 months of engineer work with like minimal guidance on my side. Opus wrote the Wiggum harness itself even. WTF

Did you know you can observe the rotation of planets yourself? This is one of my best timelapses of Jupiter, captured during ideal conditions with my 11” telescope This sort of astronomy can be done from any city in Earth, light pollution is irrelevant

Captured last night- probably the coolest comet shot I've ever gotten. I've never seen such a dynamic tail on a come. Incredible active, and moving quickly, which makes photographing it a challenge. See how it moves in the reply.

💯 My brother was born on July 20th, so I occasionally get him moon-related gifts. I got him an autographed photo of Buzz Aldrin walking on the moon a few years ago. I got him your framed ISS over Tycho photo for his birthday this year. (I hope he doesn't see this!) I worked on the ISS project, so it has an extra personal connection.

Our Abobe monthly subscription, which is really an annual commitment paid monthly, another Adobe scheme, just ran out. We've installed the free trial of Foxit on a Windows machine for a real-world test of editing a PDF. If all goes well, that'll be our Acrobat replacement. For illustration and page design, we've bought the Affinity suite for a very affordable $165. (One time, no subscription) affinity.serif.com We don't do that much video and audio stuff, but we'll be buying DaVinci Resolve 19 shortly, currently at $295. (One time, no subscription) Truthfully, the free version would probably suffice for us, but we want to support them. blackmagicdesign.com/products/davin… These are not 1-for-1 replacements and will come with a bit of a learning curve, but dammit, Adobe seems to hate its customers. Adobe's change to their ToS to include (paraphrasing), "You WILL let us use your creations and intellectual property in our AI training," was the last straw for us.

After years of paying for Adobe subscriptions, we've canceled all of ours. The subscriptions were annoying enough, but their new ToS giving them rights to train their AI against their customers' creations was the final straw. We want no part of Adobe's schemes.

🚨ADOBE CLAIMS RIGHTS TO YOUR ARTWORK FOR AI TRAINING Creators were stunned by Adobe's new TOS update, which allows the company to access and use their work for AI training. The update, revealed in a pop-up, locks users out of Photoshop until they agree. Artists like Sam Santala are outraged: "Adobe is locking me out of Photoshop unless I agree to give them full access to my work." Source: Lifehacker

It’s been more than a year since @java leapfrogged Python, JavaScript, C#, Rust, PHP, Ruby, etc., for non blocking IO ergonomics/scalability, and I still don’t see these languages trying to improve. I’m sure users of these languages are so accustomed to waiting for Java to catch up, they never even think to see if they have catching up to do. But they (finally) do. Catch up!

This is a great thing @Vercel has done. The One-Request / One-Lambda model is great for CPU-bound requests, but it's too costly for IO-bound workloads. Hopefully, concurrency becomes a core capability of AWS Lambda and other FaaS solutions. Thanks for leading the way, Vercel!

@MCCCANM I was flying one of these four Phantoms over the Atlantic, getting some gas on our way back to Germany from South Carolina, after finishing up a Red Flag. Refueling from a KC-10 was an amazing experience and so much more modern (for the '80s) than refueling from a KC-135.

This pamphlet was tucked into the last KC-10, written by TSgt A. J. Hunt. It will stay with the aircraft. I think it’s very well written & appreciate the sentiment. 🥲

I’m happy to announce that the third season of Bosch: Legacy will premiere on Prime in March. I think it’s our best yet. It will also be the last season, bringing to a fitting close a 10 season run with this character, played so well by Titus Welliver. But fear not, we 🧵1/7

Hey @Expedia, while chatting with your customer service rep about an issue with a Hertz reservation I made for my wife, your rep kept referring to her as "your wifey." While I might call her my "wifey" (I don't), I definitely prefer that some rando customer service rep doesn't.
