@PeasantBiomass @Gmoney2234561 It’s still true. The best and brightest of my high school and college friends all work for the defense industry in some capacity

@Gmoney2234561 Oldheads say something similar, the late cold war required competence and hidden recruitment channels were everywhere.
It’s definitely not true post Clinton/Obongo

@Gmoney2234561 It’s why I ended up in manufacturing instead of academia

@jackmarlui1918 @clay_space @shagbark_hick Pretty sure Trump 2024 put up the best Republican performance in 20 years in Ada County

It's hard to parse what the long-range state of domestic migration is going to look like in the USA.
It does seem that there's a pattern:
I. Dem policies ruin blue states
II. People leave blue states for red states
III. The newcomers vote for Dem policies in red states
IV. The red states now suffer from the same problems as the blue states (but often worse, as the onset is rapid)
V. As a result of all this, there are fewer and fewer "havens" where one can find a low-tax, low-reg, low-cost way of life.
Does this just keep happening until every state in the Union becomes a post-Dem apocalyptic husk?
Or at some point, are conservative-leaning Americans actually going to exhibit some agency, make a conquest, do anything but play on the eternal rearguard?
It may really be that the combination of Democrats' expansionist, high-openness traits, the destructive quality of their policies, and the absolute "retreat-mode" weakness of American conservatives will basically seal this country's fate as a "universal California" in just a generation or so.
Might be that if you don't like that, you'd be better off leaving the country. It's either that or learn to love the high-tax, high-reg, rainbow-flag-waving future of the USA.

Where Americans moved to and from in 2025. Massachusetts experienced the most loss of any state, Kansas the most of any Republican state, and South Carolina grew the fastest of any state. In contrast, Delaware grew the fastest of any Democrat state. Republican states dominated in growth overall. Follow: @AFpost

Your argument has two parts- the first I disagree with, and view as a doomer mentality where right wingers have no cultural cache- and the second I agree with, insofar that culturally right wing ideas have been in retreat for centuries. I disagree with you though, that this means that history is linear and therefore right wingers will always be in retreat. You and I may just have different psychological profiles, which both have their place. I prefer to view history and culture as what we make of it- I’ll be a good husband, father, fit both in body and mind, and earn as much as I can to give my children and wife the best opportunity to make something of themselves and influence the culture around us all. That is my contribution to standing athwart history. We’ll see who wins.

@shagbark_hick @jackmarlui1918 Ultimately, moral authority is framed by the liberal state, and conservatives must live within that framework. This forces them to slowly concede their opinions to the liberal authority. We have been watching this take place over the last 500 years at least.

This is a different argument than what Hickman is making, and one that I mostly agree with. His has to do with voting trends, and his main thesis of “Republicans don’t behave how I want them to”, wherein what he identifies with are lib artsy types who take over abandoned factory buildings and culturally take over. The GOP voter way of doing it isn’t something he enjoys, where suburbia and exurbia grows instead. Culturally, he is a religious leftist (which I understand and sympathize with). Essentially, he feels alienated culturally from the side that he must tribally line up with due to his religious beliefs.

@NickyFrank30 The beginning of the greatest love story of all time. I’m happy for you two

Since 2008, Democrats have lost 1k votes in MT and the GOP has gained 108k. MT was long the least GOP of the big sky and plains states due to a history of unionization, and at this point it’s more conservative than KS and will soon surpass Nebraska. Look up the vote totals. In 2008, MT almost voted for Obama, had two D senators, and a D governor. They now have a GOP governor, legislature, both senators are GOP, and Trump won it by over 100k votes whereas McCain won it by 11k.

@wil_da_beast630 People like Bonds and Clemens were more than deserving of the HOF without the roids- but poisoned the well. If Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe are out, so are they. Especially Joe, as the evidence for him cheating is scant.

@KevinEspiritu Barns and houses for swallows are also a godsend- as are bat houses (although your neighbors and probably wife won’t like that as much)

@shagbark_hick @clay_space This is not correct. Newcomers in Montana and Idaho have made these states more conservative.
English

@clay_space Not shocking to hear.
I suspect ID and MT will be fully liberal within the next 10-15 years unless something dramatic changes.
The last "real holdouts" of a more conservative thing are going to be states like OK and ND, which have harsh climates and lack scenery liberals like.
English

@clay_space @shagbark_hick Idaho has gotten more conservative due to Americans moving there. Boise has gotten more liberal, sure- but Couer D’Alene more than makes up for it. The more liberal trends in South Idaho are due to Mormons becoming less Republican, not people moving there.
English

I live in Idaho which is one of the biggest states for US migrants (I am actually leaving Idaho this week for good). The liberal stronghold of Boise has gotten more liberal, and other areas of Idaho are definitely turning more purple. But the people moving in are also the only ones starting legitimate businesses that are actually good. The restaurant scene for instance has gotten exceptional. My gym trainer is from California. And most of the people I meet at networking events are not native. Without the new migrants, Idaho would be very uninhabitable in my opinion.
Double edged sword, though. When I first moved here crime was nearly nonexistent. Today violent crimes are much more frequent. It’s only been 6 years…
“Conservatism” in Idaho has not really conserved anything.

@nobodyknows2322 No, see, DSA candidates are politically because all their views are super duper popular
English

Remember what I said about how no DSA candidate has been in a competitive statewide general election, and thus has never faced the full brunt of the GOP attack machine?

Honestly goated pickup line for a woman because it'll instantly filter out any guys who are right wing and probably a pretty big chunk of the liberals too

Why is hockey so Republican-coded? You'd think football would be, given the culture of raw masculinity involved.
