Loos was the first experience of battle for these Kitchener volunteers. They would reconstitute, retrain, and fight on the W Front for the duration of the war, but the survivors never forgot their experiences that day.

#OTD the 8th Queen's came up the line behind the opening attacks at the Battle of Loos. They would go into battle with catastrophic results against the German second line the following day.

#OTD 1918 the 8th Queen's came under attack at Le Verguier. Suffering heavy losses, the battalion held their position for 22 hours before withdrawing on 22 March. See our interactive map for more details: jackpeirs.org/maps/german-as…

After Le Verguier, the battalion was on the move. At Omiecourt (25 March) they put up stubborn resistance before withdrawing. This story was repeated several times over the next week. By 28 March, they had only 200 men left.

The battalion had been in action since March 21 when they were attacked at Le Verguier. They held the village for a day before withdrawing. They lost over half their men in defense of the village. jackpeirs.org/maps/german-as…
