There are now parallel tracks to become a primary care physician. One involves being in the top third of undergraduates, and then spending 4 years in medical school followed by 3 years of residency. An initial certification exam is followed by a maintenance of certification exam every 10 years. The other track still involves an undergraduate degree, but generally takes applicants that are not as strong as the medical school applicant class, and allows them to spend 2 additional years at PA school, before letting them “practice” medicine. Is the latter high quality healthcare ?
