I really think this is unfair to Pope. What I mean is that he was set to fail from the beginning. Mitch knew he was unqualified for this position but for whatever reason he still hired him I hate it for him because he seems like a terrific man and a great role model but bottom line is that he’s not fit for this job

@BigBlueBud To be fair to prior staffs, the ability to *legally* cut high dollar checks for top athletes is an advantage that no prior coach has had. He's also got a young staff that can recruit on the successes of the best programs in the country. they're starting on second base.

Why would we trust any evaluation coming from anyone on staff? Nothing against the player, he may be good, but it’s a big ask trusting Mark Pope’s opinion.

A little unnecessary drama with a redshirt announcing his return just hours before the portal closes, but... Folks in that building have raved about Hawthorne since he arrived. Serious potential with NBA tools, just has to keep taking the weight room seriously and stack reps. Mark Pope has compared him to Tayshaun Prince: "He just might have the goods, man." Fun little project for the Wildcats with big-time upside.

@DaltonJJones19 And to be honest, regardless of how much you dislike him (and what you've heard on KSR) Mitch has been a net positive for our program. The ad's before him left a giant, unstructured mess to put together, and nobody had invested in secondary sports until he organized it.

I've never heard of a coach giving statements on recruiting during the heat of recruiting. I'm concerned by his whiffs as much as anyone but Mark Pope not speaking about it yet is normal
