Somto Cyril is one of the best big men that will be available in the transfer portal this year. What *could* he bring to Arkansas? This piece ties directly into the one @JacksonCollier wrote earlier this morning. on3.com/sites/hawg-bea… #WPS

Ryan Silverfield is 20-15 in such games during his time at Memphis. He helped lead the Tigers to victories over Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Iowa State, Arkansas, and West Virginia. Other quality wins: USF (Golesh) x3 (2023-25) Tulane (Sumrall), 2024 SMU (Dykes) x2 (2021,22)

DJ Wagner was the ultimate team player and role guy at Arkansas. Always did what was asked with a smile. Another year with top incoming freshmen in the backcourt made it hard for him to have a clear lead role. He deserves to find his shot at that. Nothing but respect for DJ.

Another departure from the Arkansas women’s basketball team. Jada Bates is the latest to enter the transfer portal. Bates is the 8th Razorback to enter the portal, leaving just three players from last season’s roster that went 1-15 in SEC play (Robinson, Rodriguez, Hassan).

At best, Cal will return three contributors, Maleek Thomas, Malique Ewin and Billy Richmond. It would be a solid core. At this point, I would take two out of the three returning.

From everything I’ve seen in these documentary clips for Kentucky. Mark Pope seems like a really likeable guy, hopefully it works out for him.

Hearing that both Mark Pope and John Calipari have privately vented that UK’s fanbase has negatively affected recruiting since 2020. Other schools use the fanbase and the negativity against UK and it has cost multiple elite recruits.

Scariest thing of all? If the baseball team continues this type of play, 3 of the 4 major sports on campus will have the worst academic year of all time. Fball - 2-10 WBB - 1-15 in SEC play BSB - Could miss postseason Cal saved Hog fans, but other 3 major sports looking rough.

I know the game is not over. I also know the season is far from over. But seeing the baseball Hogs struggle like this is just such a disturbing feeling. Successful regular season the past decade, but as Nolan Richardson once said: "You create a monster, you gotta feed it."

I know this may be long winded but it is my synopsis on what’s going on: It’s a number of things. Injuries play a part. Ruiz being out matters a little. I think Gaeckle is hurt. He has regressed and didn’t look the same. Fisher was finally exposed to r last few weeks so the starting rotation is down from precious years. There are talented players in the lineup but not high end talented hitters. Helfrick and Kozeal are the best ones and Kozeal won’t be a high pick. Niu will get drafted but he’s not an elite hitter. They’ve put money into NIL and maybe they need more. The guys they got are just not as good as they need to be. Aloy has regressed, Robinett hasn’t taken the step they would have hoped for. When Ruiz is in the lineup, the entire lineup will be gone next year to the draft or graduation. McElvain has been really good but only has 13 innings. Dietz has the best stuff but this is basically his first full healthy season to pitch so inconsistencies are there. Projected talent will get him drafted high. Gibler has gotten better but still needs to keep getting better. They don’t have anyone outside of McElvain Dietz and maybe Kircher that strikes fear in hitters with their stuff. Opposing pitchers just have to navigate around Helfrick and Kozeal to keep the offense down. Souza has gotten better but he’s coming off an injury so he’s not quite there yet but getting there. So it’s a combination of a lot of little things that make this an average team. I thought they’d be decent but knew the pitching would have to be really good because the lineup isn’t loaded with great bat to ball guys. They’re too streaky. Now that the pitching has imploded, you see that they’re just not that good of a team. That’s what I see.

Is Arkansas baseball broken or can they come back from this?

I remember relishing in the fact that Arkansas knocked off No. 1 and LSU wouldn’t play for a title. Then they still did.
SEC Numbers Guy@secnumbersguy

2007 #1 LSU vs Arkansas The Razorbacks outlast the Tigers to win in Triple Overtime 50-48. Darren McFadden rushed for 3 TDs, Peyton Hillis scored 4 TDs. At the time, it was believed this loss would knock LSU out of National Championship contention.
