Battle of Talikota is genuinely one of the most exaggerated le epic history moments spread to the masses. The largest territorial extent of the empire was after Talikota.
The only long term negative effect it had was to shift the balance more towards the Nayakas.

Our man Rama Raya was captured alive during battle of Talikota. He was executed personally by Hussain Nizam Shah I. His severed head was displayed which lead to panic & the collapse of the Vijayanagara forces. Later traditions claim he was offered conversion to islam for mercy but he refused & died chanting "Narayana Krishna Bhagavanta" but Majumdar & Nilakanta Sastri consider these accounts unverified.
