📢 Calling all Boricuas! The Puerto Rican People's Day Parade is back! 🇵🇷🎉 📅 WHEN: Friday, June 13 at 12 PM 📍WHERE: Division St., Chicago, IL (Corner of Campbell Ave) This year's theme: "Orgullo Boricua: Aquí y Allá" de Isabela a Barrio Borikén. Celebrating Boricua LGBTQ+ pride that stretches across the ocean and across generations, from the island to every community we've built far from home. 🏳️‍🌈 We're also honoring 60 years since the Puerto Rican Rebellion of 1966. Our people fought for these blocks, this flag, this community. On June 13, we show up for them and every generation to come. ✊ Bring your flags, your family and good vibes. See you there! #PuertoRicanPeoplesDayParade #BoricuaChicago #OrgulloBoricua

Part 2: The fight for Loíza continues. For decades, the “Villa Vaca” Hacienda Grande community in Puerto Rico has been home to generations of families, grandparents, parents, and children building their lives side by side. About five years ago, they were told their future was secure: sign the contracts, pay $1 in rent, and you’ll never have to leave. Now, that promise is unraveling. An Illinois Act 22 developer is putting this community at risk of displacement, threatening to uproot elders and young families who have nowhere else to go. What was supposed to protect them may now cost them everything. This isn’t just about land. It’s about trust, history, and the right to stay in the place they’ve always called home. Listen to their stories. Share them. Stand with Loíza. ✊🏽🇵🇷 #PuertoRicoIsNotForSale #CloseAct22TaxLoophole #LoizaPuertoRico

OTD 1965: Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos died in San Juan after years of declining health, reportedly linked to radiation exposure and a stroke while imprisoned. A leading figure in the Puerto Rican independence movement and president of the Nationalist Party, his legacy endures from Puerto Rico to Chicago through education, culture, and collective struggle. His vision lives on at Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos Puerto Rican High School (W. Division St.), founded by community leaders including Oscar López Rivera. PACHS students, with the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, built “La Casita de Don Pedro y Doña Lolita,” modeled after a traditional rural home in Puerto Rico. A bronze statue of Albizu stands in front, placed after the Chicago Park District rejected its installation in Humboldt Park. It sits on a star-shaped base resembling the Puerto Rican flag when viewed from above. The site symbolizes resistance and identity and now serves as a community space for photography, artesanías (crafts), and cultural events. Other local sites include Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos Street along Paseo Boricua and the Pedro Albizu Campos Apartments on N. California Ave. Currently, the Chicago Park District is seeking to commission a new statue in Humboldt Park as a community gathering point. #PedroAlbizuCampos #PuertoRicanHistory #DiasporaEnChicago

Waves Ahead Corp., a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to the holistic well-being of LGBTQ+ communities, people living with HIV, and older adults in Puerto Rico, officially announced today its integration as a program of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center Juan Antonio Corretjer (PRCC), a recognized institution, based in Chicago, with a long track record of advocating for culture, health, and social justice in Puerto Rican communities in the diaspora. PRCC has been registered for several years as an NGO with the Puerto Rico Department of State and has collaborated on housing, agriculture, health, and cultural projects alongside a variety of institutions, community groups, and municipalities across the island. This strategic partnership responds to the growing challenges faced by community organizations, including budget cuts, shifts in public policy, and increasing needs among vulnerable populations. The integration will strengthen operational capacity, expand service reach, and ensure the sustainability of essential programs in Puerto Rico.

We are stronger together 🤝🏽🏳️‍🌈 Waves Ahead will now be a program of the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, expanding vital services for LGBTQ+ communities, people living with HIV, and older adults in Puerto Rico. This integration ensures the continuation and growth of essential programs like mental health support, HIV prevention and care, food distribution, and wellness services. At a time of increasing challenges, this partnership strengthens our collective commitment to health equity, cultural empowerment, and community care, both in the diaspora and on the island. Together, we continue building pathways for healthier, more dignified lives for our communities. 💛
