The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: _"I was a prophet while Adam was between water and clay." That's very similar. So, Isa (jesus) could mean: "Allah decreed me and knew me before Abraham was created, or follow my teachings first before Abraham, and I was given revelation before." It doesn’t mean he is God. "I am" is not a claim to divinity. In the context of John 8, Jesus was speaking about his prophethood and his rank with Allah. "I am" in Greek is _ego eimi_ is a common phrase.
