Upcoming Hwarim Bonggil spin-off webtoon ‘Maengjong’, Exhuma’s director involved. Maengjeong (맹정) or Blind Obedience (lit meaning) is written by Haemuri, Trapped (올가미 - Olgami) writer. The story follows Hwarim, a high school student who hides her true identity after getting involved with a snake spirit “Jin” during her childhood. One day, Bonggil, a student from the same school, appears in front of her, and strange things begin to happen around them. Maengjeong literally means “blindly following others without questioning about what is right or wrong” and it represents the mysterious events in the story. A representative from Naver Webtoon said that director Jang Jaehyun (Exhuma’s director) only took part in reviewing the project proposal during the early planning stage. Lee Hyunjeong, Showbox’s executive director who distributed Exhuma, said “I believe it’s meaningful that the spin-off story of Exhuma, a film which received so much love from audiences, is expanding through a webtoon.
