@adrift_mp3 @hgrh01ms Before we even talk about “context”, firstly justify why your moral standard should be treated as objectively binding across all time periods. Please answer this 🙏😅

If a religion needs 25815372763 different men to tell what the straightforward words like kill, torture, beat, etc mean and raping women have been okayed in it, maybe just maybe it's your religion that sucks, no?
Kratos3821@kratos3821

@j4yisnotreal the difference between Muslims and you is that we read with context, you choose to ignore context gemini.google.com/share/b527c649…

@KuroshThe77715 @j4yisnotreal @hgrh01ms What makes you think the ppl back then also didn't say this? Ppl in the past didn’t think they were “doing something wrong” either. They believed their standards were correct, just like you do now. And future societies will likely judge your era the same way you’re judging theirs

@jaemeaur If you say god defines morality, THAT's the subjective morality, because it's whatever god (subjectively) decides. Anyone who thought their morals came from god would be deferring to someone else's subjective morality, which is what cowards do.

1/4 You still don't get it 😭 I never said slavery is good. I asked you to justify what YOU mean by “good” and “bad” in the first place. bc moral claims are not self-proving. Saying “that’s horrible!!” is an emotional reaction, not yet a philosophical grounding.
makacken😛@makacken

@jaemeaur @YURIpilledangel @riritam20 @SupranosAkithan >"Quran forbids sex slavery!!!" >"How about you consider that slavery is actually not bad?" Muslims are not fucking real bro😭, that's hilarious🤣 Tell me, please, why is slavery a good thing, I want to hear it

4/4 So basically Subjective here doesn't mean it comes from a mind. It means it varies by agent, with no necessary truth constraint While theism claims that morality is grounded in a necessary nature, not shifting preference

3/4 So saying it is “subjective” bc it comes from a mind is a category error. Otherwise you’d have to say logic, math, and laws of reasoning are also “subjective” because they’re understood by minds

1/4 If morality comes from God, it is “mind-based,” yes, but that doesn’t automatically make it subjective. Subjective morality means morality is dependent on human preferences that vary and have no necessary truth value

@makacken "If society agrees, it becomes moral" U just admitted ur morality is consensus-based, not objective. And if that’s d standard, then u lose the ability to say past societies were “wrong” rather than just different. You can describe change, but you can't ground moral condemnation

@jaemeaur Everyone's morals are negotiated with other people... a society's "morality" is a sort of negotiated social code for living with lots of other people in that society. That's why moralities change - because societies change.

@makacken You literally just proved my point 😭 “I don’t need a metaethical framework, I just know” = “my moral intuitions are self-authenticating” But that’s u asserting ur feelings (which we don't give a shit about) as universal truth Y should ur *feelings be binding on everyone else?

@jaemeaur Nice philosophical gymnastics to dodge the slavery question 😭 But if your morality is just "what God says," it’s arbitrary obedience, not objective. If God allowed slavery, you'd call it "good." I don't need a complex metaethical framework to know that slavery is bad.

@hgrh01ms @YURIpilledangel You're doing exactly what I said 😭 You can’t just assert your worldview like it is self-evidently true, you have to firstly argue for it. Where do you get your morality from? Why should it be objectively binding? Account for these first, before we can proceed meaningfully

@BlueBerries4M3 @YURIpilledangel No, it is a consistency argument. The UAE is bad, sure. It gets stigmatized, also good But the US/American empire is infinitesimally worse, yet not even a fraction of that energy is shown towards it That's where the disconnect is

@ponbeep @PunishedLu @Mark_DHoffman They absolutely do. There are literal cartel enclaves with churches and the cross visible everywhere In fact, one could argue they were inspired by the Holy Spirit

4/4 You’re trying to morally judge entire metaphysical systems without first giving an account of ur morality itself. It doesn't work like that yunno😆

3/4 And if society is the standard, then slavery was accepted by basically every civilization for most of human history, including secular ones. So on your own framework, why were THEY wrong objectively instead of being merely different from modern liberal culture?
