@JohnHelveston Still here! 👋 Not as active on here since leaving the academe, though. Actually, I feel like a lot of folks either moved on from academia or Posit/RStudio around the same time, which seemed to suck the air out of the community.

@ChelseaParlett PTO is so great. I used to think PTO allotments of 10 to 20 days sounded paltry. But when you include weekends off, the difference with academia is huge!

Taking my first PTO day 😎 It’s so weird not having to plan my time off around cancelling as few classes (usually NONE) as possible✌️

People believe women are here to support men. That our job is to create babies, not companies and jobs. Not be equals. I love being a partner. I love being a mom. But I also love my career and the fulfillment I get from my work. If you’ve ever wondered what the patriarchy is, it’s this. This programming and thinking. It causes subconscious hate and disgust for women who don’t follow these societal rules and expectations of what a woman “should” do and be. I’m sorry to every graduate who had to sit there and listen to that. Go on to change the world - however you choose.
