So plan B from press conference: elevate UK's MoU with Rwanda to a treaty with specific safeguards, then introduce emergency legislation to have Parlt put in primary legislation that Rwanda is to be treated as a safe country. Quick 🧵@IanDunt @woodstockjag @JoshuaRozenberg

Some very public-facing comments by Lord Reed in the opening of his summary of the judgment: - Policy is not that the UK will process asylum claims whilst people are in Rwanda, Rwanda will process them (despite the former often being claimed) - The non-refoulement principle is contained in a number of treaties not just the European Convention on Human Rights and Human Rights Act

Even with a large conservative majority, it's hard to see Parliament voting for policy which has just been ruled unlawful in such clear terms, particularly when the UK Gov has so often marginalised parliament in law-making in recent years 1/

Tory right-wing MPs now pushing for emergency legislation to be tabled within days to make the Rwanda scheme work - arguing that parliamentary sovereignty trumps any ruling from Supreme Court.

The UK Supreme Court has unanimously found that the Government’s #Rwanda Policy is unlawful. Four key takeaways, and what’s next.

Glad to see that the House of Lords passed a crossbench amendment to the Illegal Migration Bill to guard against LGBTIQA+ people being sent to countries where they would have a well-founded fear of persecution. I doubt this will survived the Commons, but we fight on.

Today the @UKHouseofLords is considering Private Members’ Bills. Our guide to the legislative process for #PMBs in the Lords explains the procedures and why they are more straightforward than #PMB procedures in the Commons. ow.ly/51iL50OQbel

Only had 60 secs to sum up whole host of reasons why Lords amendments to Govt's reckless #REULBill were critical - to stop blatant executive power grab & avoid environmental protections being trashed. Govt has, to its shame, just voted down both amendments. @euromove @GreenerUK_

🇹🇼 Taiwan has expanded its adoption rights for same-sex couples. 👨‍👨‍👦 Taiwan's parliament passed an amendment on Tuesday allowing gay couples to jointly adopt children - a move hailed by activists as "another big step forward" for marriage equality.
