Dr. William Goedel @Brown_SPH created an interactive map of everyone World Cup training site, team hotel, and stadium across all 16 cities. Useful for fans. Essential for public health professionals. Smart infrastructure, built before it's needed. arcgis.com/apps/dashboard…

April Fools' Day comes with a warning label, but biological threats won't. If you don't know today who you'd turn to for trusted information during a biological event, figure it out before you need to.

False biological claims move at the speed of social media. Credible correction moves at the speed of institutions and personal engagement. That gap is exploitable. The decisions that keep a biological event from becoming a crisis happen early. They must be based on good info.

April Fools' Day works because we share a framework: we know the rules, we know the timeline, and by April 2nd the game is over. We have no equivalent for biological threats. And that's a serious problem. I’ll explain what I mean. 🧵 #nojoke

Happy Pi Day! 🥧 Pi’s refusal to follow a pattern mirrors biotechnology: capabilities and risks today will look nothing like those of tomorrow. Governance is already struggling to keep pace. NTI | bio is working to change that. #PiDay #Biosecurity #AIxBio nti.org/analysis/artic…

Great perspective from ⁦@cmyeaton⁩ and ⁦@dylanbgeorge⁩ on responding to COVID variants & preparing for future pathogens. With data shaping so much of the world around us, “it’s past time to bring outbreak analytics in the 21st century.” Truth. usatoday.com/story/opinion/…

The message from ⁦@PeterHotez⁩ to the highest risk communities is clear: “Vaccination offers the only certain path to avoid hospitalization, ICU admission, or death.” Now is the time to focus public health resources on delivering the message. thedailybeast.com/coronavirus-mu…

“...there will not be enough vaccines for true global coverage until 2023.” This is too long. Approved technologies should be globally licensed. Delaying widespread production increases the risk of escape mutants that render vaccines ineffective. nytimes.com/2021/01/31/wor…

Climate security is national security. It impacts defense infrastructure and mission planning; it shapes the strategic landscape and geopolitical stability. Ignoring these facts puts personnel at risk and leaves the U.S. ill-prepared for future conflicts. defense.gov/Newsroom/Relea…

A growing toolbox of S&T advances, paired with clear preparedness and response gaps revealed by the COVID-19 pandemic, place the U.S in a position to act. And to succeed. #BioApollo

Honored to have joined experts contributing to this ⁦⁦@BioCommission⁩ report. While many have long discussed the tech priorities to stop pandemics, turning vision to reality requires cross-government coordination and sustained, focused investment. biodefensecommission.org/reports/the-ap…

Without question, a coordinated pandemic response is a ⁦@POTUS priority. But COVID-19 won’t be the last biological threat. This directive will prepare 🇺🇸 and the 🌍 for future threats, whether naturally occurring, accidental, or deliberate. #Leadership whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/…

Retweeting as I tagged the wrong Adam last time! Will use this as an opportunity to flag some of the other great @NTI_WMD bio interns I had the opportunity to work with: @KBudeski, @_jtobrien, and @mike_krug1. Rising leaders to watch.

Truly love seeing the former @NTI_WMD interns shine. Today I watched @Adam_Elliott16 present his @StanfordCISAC honors thesis on “Addressing Life Science Dual Use Risk Across the U.S. Government,” complete with some very challenging questions from the audience. Well done, Adam!

Surviving COVID-19 doesn’t mean a full recovery. As Peter Piot notes, “there will be hundreds of thousands of people worldwide, possibly more, who will need treatments such as renal dialysis for the rest of their lives.” This is a truly horrible disease. sciencemag.org/news/2020/05/f…

While Amy propels the teams forward today, this work builds on tremendous contributions by Matt Hepburn, Dan Wattendorf, and other @DARPA program managers that came before, as well as countless researchers tirelessly working in labs. Thanks to each and every one. (2/2)

Turn your body into a bioreactor. Create a temporary firebreak to slow a raging pandemic. These aren't just wild ideas thanks to @DARPA investments to create new tools for pandemic prevention. Great to see Amy leading the push to turn these concepts into reality. (1/2)
