@Henchman23 I would argue the lack of meaningful rule change has not kept up with the rate of change in the sport. So by not changing/adapting we lose ground to an evolving sport annually. What we have now is the result of years of apathy towards change.

I disliked the immediate stalemate on the takedown this year at the ncaa tournament. Although I understand why they do it to avoid the stalling on the attacking wrestler. It put the taken down wrestler in a way worse position to escape. Thus creating less action.

One thing I'll never understand is changing the way things are called only at the national tournament and it's happened quite a few times. This year I noticed they were calling an immediate stalemate right after a takedown where a guy was trapped below the knees or in a position where he couldn't quickly work up. Honestly I like the call but they didn't call it that way all year. Conversely I thought edge stalling, even though I don't love the rules and the way it's called, was called a lot more consistently during the regular season. When we got to the NCAA tournament it seems like there was a backroom agreement between the officials to not call edge stalling unless it was really egregious, which completely changes the way you've called it during the season. I don't know all the ins and outs but it seems like the officials have a meeting before the NCAA tournament and decide what points of emphasis they are going to call and then everybody just has to figure it out as the tournament goes on. I don't love it. Athletes and coaches need consistency and understanding above all else. Now maybe there was a coaches' meeting where they explained how they were going to change things but I don't think so. Someone enlighten me if that's the case.

I like the idea of criteria. I hate the 1st point scored. Afraid it’s gonna cause 0-0 first periods and hope for the benefit of a coin flip. Similar to OT now.

Couple ideas not fully vetted: 1. First point scored. 2. 0-0 score (only time a point hasn't been scored) - most riding time 3. 0-0 score and equal riding time, first person who was on top and got riding time clock in their favor 4. 0-0 score and no one ever was on top, 7 minutes of neutral scoreless wrestling - only one I don't have an answer for yet. Fewer stall warnings? If there isn't a stall warning in 7 mins of 0-0 wrestling we have a greater problem. Almost every match would be solved by criteria #1. AND it would increase urgency in both the 1st and 3rd periods because if you score in the 1st, you don't have to rely on the coin flip. And if you're losing in the 3rd, you know it and have 2 mins to do something about it, just like OT.

You know what could change @NCAAWrestling wrestling almost single handedly. The REFs. They don’t understand control, they don’t understand a lot of positions. They are so scared to call anything. They want a count for everything

Not a loud storyline from this weekend, but an awesome & rare one: @PackWrestle's Isaac Trumble, who was undefeated on the year, and shut out #1 Yonger Bastida in the Finals to win his NCAA title, will be commissioned in the Army in May. Having been a member of NC State's ROTC program, he will look to begin his career in the U.S. Army Infantry as a field artillery officer. Gotta love & appreciate that! Thank you for your service, @isaactrumble_! 🫡🇺🇸

Here is the issue with the PJ Duke call. In overtime if you call it and it takes the position away, you pretty much have to stay with it. It's not like Jiu Jitsu or MMA where they restart you in the same position. As we found out all weekend, it's really really hard to score at this level and in overtime he gets a cradle locked up. Even if it's not 100% a takedown at that moment, there's a really good chance that it ends up a takedown. I'm not a big fan of video review anyway but I don't think you can have video review in overtime because you just can't take away those types of situations. It's too unfair.

not that it matters now, but that was 100% a takedown for Vega and the fact that it was reviewed and still wrong is .... ya know
