Well, the discussion document for the college of science at Massey University is out and it is not pretty. In total, perhaps 30 - 40% of faculty could be eliminated across a broad swath of subject areas; Chemistry, Mathematics, Molecular Bio, etc. Dark times friends! #NZLabLife

The reputational and opportunity cost of dismantling an established, networked and productive science dept is immeasurable. We provide needed tertiary #STEM education to the quickly growing North Shore and Northland. @MasseyUni will look back and wonder “what were we thinking?”

Does @MasseyUni SLT (@ProfJanThomas et al) realise their decisions now will echo for decades to come? What staff/student wld join an institute that operates in this manner? There are many established much more humane approaches to reducing staffing! #SaveAlbanyScience

🙄🙄🙄🙄 One does not simply "find another advisor" mid-PhD.... I've dealt with doctoral admin for years, any changes in supervisory team are long discussed, thoroughly thought through and with good reason behind the decision, not done because it has to be... FFS
