I know this is an especially scary time for trans people in Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati area. And I’m aware this is not an elegant way to ask a marginalized group of people to talk with me. But time is of the essence.

I know this is my dead Twitter account, but I am posting an important ask: I am trying to tell the stories of transgender kids, teens, and young adults who would be impacted by the proposed KY legislation to ban gender affirming care for minors (among other things).

@Mark_Paynewrite I have not looked very hard, but I wish they would come out with a disclaimer about what happened. I mean, one typo that didn't swing the election at all? Whatever. Just fix it and move on. But I feel like this was really big.

I believe that this also happened elsewhere in Kentucky. Any of the other political reporters in Kentucky notice this happening?

Important thread on the issue with poll numbers in Northern Kentucky last night. The AP flopped the winners and losers in House Districts 67 and 68. Incumbent Rep. Rachel Roberts (D-Covington) won in 67th and Republican Mike Clines won in 68th.

@Mark_Paynewrite Yes. I was able to tap one of my editors and he was able to eventually report the issue to AP. But yeah. What a mess!

We then used the local results we received from our own reporter in the Campbell County Fiscal Court chambers. These local numbers were correct. There was nothing we or any news outlet could do about the AP numbers that were eventually corrected.

@Mark_Paynewrite We had other issues with AP last night, I believe. And they FINALLY fixed the votes counted part.

I deactivated Twitter for about a week and just reactivated it for election night. For a moment, I thought, "This isn't so bad." But I could have gone my whole life without seeing the incel video. 🙈 I've been doom scrolling for hours.

But it's important to remember that all of that was a REPORTING error. It's not an election error. Your election was likely just fine. /r 4/4

That is obviously a major, major mistake at the worst time. And I know some team of people was troubleshooting and bawling their eyes out trying to figure out what happened. 3/4

I want to explain what happened w election numbers last night bc I don't want an Associated Press error to shake ppl's confidence in elections. I can't speak for AP. I do not work for them. But most news organizations use AP to pull statewide or national numbers. 1/4

Update! County Clerk Jim Luersen just told us the missing districts are "ghost districts" meaning nobody lives in them. So all that's left are write-in ballots. It could be HOURS before we know whether we get those tonight or tomorrow.

These are pretty close to the final numbers in Campbell County: 97.37% of the vote is in. We are waiting on write-in ballots. I have already checked these numbers twice and will check again when we get the write-ins. (This is for the local elections.) cincinnati.com/elections/resu…
